If State, Carolina, etc are getting the best recruits then why in the world do they suck? Skip Holtz must be the best coach in the world, to get that kind of results with sub-par players.

How does that big brain of yours explain why UNC still sucks? I mean...its obvious Davis is the best coach ever and should have been in the HOF last year...top 10 recruiting classes 2 years in a row. I guess McNeese St's coach is all world, right? TOB outcoached Davis last year. Holtz outcoached Davis last year. Coker must be damn near as good as Davis as well?

Last year was Davis' first at Carolina, and it's not surprising that he went 4-8 considering that Bunting didn't do very well at recruiting, plus UNC played four top 25 opponents, with 6 of the 8 losses coming by seven points or less. Meanwhile Skip only won five in his first year while playing no top 25 opponents, with 4 of his 6 losses coming by ten points or more. If Carolina is still struggling two years from now then you can talk shit, but nothing will change the fact that Butch Davis has proven himself to be a very good coach. You being too ignorant to know that is irrelevant.
That's nonsense. State had more talent than Carolina last year, but UNC still would have won if not for Yates' interceptions.

Understand the fact they are going through coaching changes. TOB and Butch have different coaching techniques than Amato and Bunting. They also have a different offense and defense than the previous coaches. They have certain type player they want in their system than the ones already in place when they took over. If you look at last year's result, yes they sucked, but give both of them 2 more years when they have cycled the players they want, then we will have this discussion.

Imagine what Holtz could do with UNC and State's so called "big time" recruits.

holtz went to a bowl his second year as head coach at ECU....he took a team that was 3-20 previous to his arrival and in his fourth season he has them ranked 14th in the nation after 2 games. 3 straight wins over top 25 teams. Hell, he won 5 games his first year at the helm. I'm not saying TOB and Davis aren't good coaches. I think that Butch Davis is one of the best coaches out there, but Skip Holtz has done much better with far less resources and in far less time than Davis or TOB will do. If in his 4th season Davis or TOB has his team ranked 14th after 2 games, or has 3 straight wins over a top 25 team, then I will eat my words. But I don't think it's going to happen. Lets not forget that Holtz is doing this at a non-BCS school, which many say that keeps him from getting the top of the line recruits. Carolina plays ECU the next 3 years. Do you think that Carolina will be better than ECU next year or in '10?

Actually you're looking at it backwards. Being at a non-BCS makes it much easier for a coach taking over a program. Skip has obviously done a great job, but it's a lot easier to only play a couple of good teams a year than to play one most weeks.

i thought about that and you make a good point. But beating those BCS schools without the BCS recruiting advantage makes a BIG statement.

Is that why the ACC sucks so bad?

Well they also have 40 different bowl games, so as long as you win 6 games, you go to a bowl game. Hell, NC State was close to going to a bowl game last year, with Evans as the QB. So it's really not that hard to get into a bowl game.

It's like I said, they have found a formula and its working for them. ECU has a QB that is a senior and understands the game and brings different intangibles. If Holtz can come back next year and the year after that, without Pinkney and have the same results, then hats off to him.
