He's had two recruiting classes full of 4 and 5 star recruits the past two years. Played most all of them last year as freshman...what has he done to prove hes a good coach???? Beat McNeese St by 8 points? 4 wins last year? (he should be able to get at least 5 wins in the ACC and with their cupcake schedule OOC without any talent whatsoever. )

You didn't answer my question. Did the Browns hire Butch Davis because of his recruiting skills or because they thought he was a good coach? And for the record, Davis led his team to the playoffs, something fellow washouts Lou Holtz and Steve Spurrier can't claim. I'm also sure you had no idea about the sanctions Davis was operating under at Miami due to recruiting infractions by the previous coach, Dennis Erickson. He had to deal with scholarship limitations and other issues, but managed to rebuild the program anyway.

You said something dumb and you got called on it. I understand why you're embarrassed, but the better course of action is to acknowledge your mistake and move on instead of trying to defend it and just making things worse for yourself.

Well considering that both programs have coaches that are entering their second year means a lot. Both TOB and Butch knew the program they were coming into would have to be rebuilt and thats what they are doing. If you give TOB and Butch a year or two like I stated, and get the type players they want into their program and playing under their system, they will turn the program around.

I dunno man...its the fucking Browns. Why do they do a lot of things? What has he done outside of Miami? You havent mentioned anything other than winning there..which a number of coaches have been able to do. I simply gave you my opinion that TOB is a better gameday coach. Whats gonna happen when he only has 4 wins AGAIN this year? Another raise?
I guess since Larry Coker won a ring at Miami he is an awesome coach as well?

What do you mean, "back to". That's all we are getting now (with the occasional 3 star sprinkled in..which will still happen)

Im not hyping up ECUs recruiting. We have always had 1 and 2 stars.

And I agree the programs will turn around. Butch will get better recruits than TOB...but I feel NCSU will have the better program once they get into year 4 and beyond.

Well as long as you admit thats cool. Personally, I would like to see ECU battle NC State, UNC, Wake for recruits. It keep recruits in-state and makes the rivarlies better in the process.

Signing day storylines: The elder Holtz has to be impressed with the job his son Skip has done with the East Carolina program, and pointed out the significance a successful season and bowl victory could have on a recruiting class. However, both of the Pirates' top prospects in 2008, running backs Adrian Jones (Laurinburg, N.C./Scotland) and Marquan Brown (Hope Mills, N.C./Grays Creek), committed prior to the bowl victory over Boise State. Brown actually gave a verbal back in May and could have slipped through the cracks due to his lack of size. Jones actually told us a day after his commitment that he chose East Carolina, despite bigger offers, because Holtz confirmed that he could remain at running back while most schools had him pegged at corner -- a smart move by the third-year head coach.

Ten out of ECU's 11 current commitments are in-state prospects with a selected few choosing the Pirates over more prominent BCS programs like North Carolina.
Top prospect: One of the faster backs in the country, Brown could be utilized all over the field and fill some of the multi-purpose voids left by Pirates' senior back Chris Johnson. Brown lacks great size, which could hinder carriers, but expect East Carolina to possibly employ him in the slot to isolate his speed on linebackers in space. As a back, he does show toughness, good leg drive and a burst through the hole; vision and instincts are also top attributes.
Class highlights: Two potential playmakers at running back and one football. In an ideal world, Jones would develop into a productive running back with his great speed, burst and dangerous skills in space and Brown would polish his receiving skills and become a weapon in the slot; it's a good problem to have for the Pirates' offensive coaches.
Defensively, ECU got some much needed help up front in big defensive tackle Anthony Garner (Sliver City, N.C./ Jordan-Matthews). A deceptively quicker defensive lineman with good body control, Garner can come off the ball and create havoc along the interior with his strong hands and quick penetration. Could see the field in 2008: Jones and Brown.

Yeah, and Butch Davis took "the fucking Browns" to the playoffs. I'm sure Jimmy Johnson had Butch as his defensive line coach and later defensive coordinator because he was good at recruiting too, right?

The next time you say something stupid and someone vastly more intelligent than you are calls you on it, don't get defensive and make things worse. Just be a man, acknowledge that you said something dumb, and move on.
