Best Team in the Carolinas

If you look at the results right now, its ECU. But its not about who's the best team right now; it's about the best team when the season is over. Every one of these teams has quality players, but yet they are one player away from their season ending. If Wake lose Skinner, ECU lose Pinkney, that will ruin their season. At the end of the year, my guess will be Wake is the best team in the Carolina's because they have player's that play the game right and the best coach in the ACC.

 

nc state could lose 20 players and wouldnt be any worse. About the same for unc. I dont think they could combine both teams and get 7 wins.

 

NC State problems have been injuries, last year and this year. Jemelle Eugene, has been out the first two games, Toney Baker hasn't played this year, Donald Bowens is one of the best receivers at State and is out for the year, Anthony Hill which he was one of the top TE's in the league was out last year and has only played one game this year. We all know of Russell and the injury he sustained at USC. You can't control injuries and as a State fan I feel like we have lost about 20 players due to injury. I am happy we have TOB and I feel like State is getting some quality players but they are still a year or two away.

 

a year or two away? the best players in the state aren't going to NC state. The best players are going to places like ECU where they will let them play the position that they want to play. Pinkney was recruited hard by both Carolina and State, but they wouldn't let him play QB. Skip Holtz has found a way to get the best players from state, etc.

NO, the best players are not going to ECU. In last year's recruitng class, ECU only had 1 3-star commit, the rest were 2-stars. In 2007, you only had 4 3-star commits, the rest were 2 stars. In 2006, you had 5 3-star commit, the rest were 2-stars. In 2005, you had 3 3-star commit, the rest were either 2-star or 1-star commits. Since my search only goes back as far as 2002, you have had no 4-star or 5-star commitments to ECU since 2002. The best players are going to places like State and UNC or either going out of state.

So NO ECU is not getting top talent. If your happy with your coach bring in a bunch of 2-star recruits then you should love the ECU program. They have found a formula that works for them and having a Sr. QB is also important.

 

While we are getting some good players, we will not be getting most of the 4 and 5 star recruits like UNC or NCSU (or even Wake) will b/c of the "BCS" tag. Kind of hard to go against them being able to tell recruits if they win their conference they have a chance of playing for the national championship...even if ECU were to go 13-0 this year and win the rest of the games by 50 I highly doubt we would even be considered for the NC game unless every other team in the nation had 2+ losses and WVU and VT ended up with only 1 loss a piece.

But you have a great point about us getting good players in b/c we let them have a chance at the position they want to play. And we are now back in good graces with a LOT of the high-school coaches in the east (most started disliking us b/c we agreed to play Friday night ESPN games a while back...then John Thompson came in and practically ignored NC)

The main thing is Skip and Co know how to coach em up. He just signed a new contract extension through 2013 (I think) that will have him among the top 30 coaches pay wise (supposed to be around 1.5-1.8 mil per year after incentives) which is VERY good for a coach in a "non-BCS AQ" conference.

 

I agree about the stars...but you see what the higher rated recruits are doing for UNC and NCSU....shit. Chris Johnson was like a 2 star when he came out I believe...stars mean shit for the most part.


Although I would rather have TOB as a coach than Butch..Butch can recruit like hell...just dont think he's a good game coach.

 

You are a moron. Which one of the two has a national championship ring? Which one was hired by the NFL? Are you telling me that the Browns hired Butch Davis because they wanted him to recruit?
