    Coors and Molson announce plans to merge

    Another beer merger is brewing.

    The Adolph Coors Company and Canadian brewer Molson said they'll merge their two mid-sized breweries into a powerhouse that will compete against the world's beer giants.

    If approved, the combined company would have annual revenues of about $6 billion. Coors chief executive Leo Kiely would become CEO and Molson Chairman Eric Molson would become chairman.

    Coors is the third-largest U.S. brewer, while Montreal-based Molson is neck-and-neck with Interbrew's Labatt Brewing in Canada.

    Molson has shown signs of internal strife. Former deputy chairman Ian Molson was among five directors not re-elected or replaced on the board in June.

    The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Ian Molson may make his own offer for Coors, possibly setting off a bidding war.
