Bear's Brown on Jake

Do you guys think we can ever win a superbowl with Jake as the qb?I know we came close in 03,but he seem to have regressed.

 

Yes we can, he just has to stop playing scared.

solarte or anyone else for that matter should'nt he have stopped that by now?the throwing of the back foot and the mechanics problems. Can he be consistant enough to lead this team especially as is constituted right now? ie: no running game no receiver other than smith.

 

Jake seems to do that off and on - streaky.

Week 5 - 6 receivers (of 18 completions)
Week 6 (unsure - Weinke came in )
Week 8 - 8 receivers ( of 21 completions )
Week 9 - 6 receivers ( of 11 completions )
Week 10 - 6 receivers ( of 10 completions )
Week 11 - 5 receivers ( of 22 completions )

Today was the worst. 39 pass attempts and 16 run attempts = Panthers lose.

I can't argue that Delhomme feeds Smitty. But you can't argue that Smitty isn't the best choice.

I'm all nerded-out.

 

Fox has actually said that a big part of this year's gameplan is a concerted effort to get the ball to Smith (he was being asked about Colbert at the time, not Delhomme).

Given that Smith is tearing it up this season, it's hard to argue with the logic. The staff has talked about "feeding the studs" as a big part of their offensive philosophy. This season, nobody is studlier than Smith.

As to Delhomme, can we win a Super Bowl with him as a QB? We darn near did, and I still believe we can. Going into this game, only four QBs in the league had more touchdown passes. He's capable, but unless we can get something going on the ground he's going to have a rough way to go.

And I'll repeat again what I have said a hundred times: We need a true QB coach.

 

Jake can read. He doesn't always want to check down, though, and that's probably part of why he gambles so much.

 

key word there..."gambles"...we've been calling him the riverboart gambler...gunslinger...johnny sidearm (well, that one is me)...and he adlibs well when he has to, but today, he never seemed to get his feet set underneath him, and the few throws he DID step into, were bullets , on the mark, in the numbers, etc.

You kinda wish he would react like Tim Robbins in Bull Durham...."That was beautiful....what did I do?"

 

Delhomme is 30 years old; you're not going to change him at this point. He made the same mistakes two years ago that he's making now, they're just coming more often and in more critical situations. Moreover, Delhomme and Fox obviously think that Mike McCoy is a true QBs coach.

I'm beginning to wonder if the hits he took last year have made him gunshy. He doesn't step into any throws these days, even if the pressure isn't really there.
