The answer to question one is No. The answer to question 2 is To possibly determine who the national champion is.

However, neither of these questions are relevant to the stupidity of the BCS system.

They're relevant both to the BCS and to your particular stupidity. You claim that you want on-field results to matter, and yet you want to ignore that LSU has already beaten both Alabama and Oregon. That's already been "settled on the field." LSU beat them. This is exposing the fact that people like you who whine about the BCS are actually morons and hypocrites.

It doesn't do anything of the sort. There would still be uncertainty & controversy about who gets in, seeding, where and when the games are played, etc. But in addition to all that, you'd now be completely undermining the regular season. How many times do I need to point out that college football is more popular than ever, and arguably more popular than any sport in the United States (if you pool attendance and viewership)? It's hugely popular in part precisely because the regular season is far more important in college football than anywhere else.

You're not answering the question, which I guess means that you're a coward in addition to being a complete dumbass. Hasn't LSU already "settled it on the field" against Alabama and Oregon? Why should they have to play those teams again if winning on the field is what's actually important?

Ok... Playing your silly game, they shouldn't. So the voters, media, coaches and computers eliminate those teams when deciding who to make number 2 and declare Oklahoma St number 2 ( in this ridiculous scenario, we say they beat OK) and they get to play for the title, because we have to overlook the fact they lost at ISU last night thus making the regualr season insignificant for only them.
