It's still actually unlikely that those two teams play in the national championship. If Oklahoma State beats Oklahoma then they will move up significantly not only in the computer rankings but the polls as well. Meanwhile Virginia Tech is the only remaining contender who will be playing in a conference championship game, so they will move up as well. It will actually take more upsets for Alabama to get in.

Many SEC fans are similarly biased. The reason I singled out Boise is that they a very disciplined team that won't beat themselves, and they have the ability to run on LSU while not allowing the Tigers to run all over them. You have to feel pretty good about your chances if you can force Jordan Jefferson to beat you. Then again, Boise's kicker sucks, so that could be a factor. If you want a BCS challenger, then Virginia Tech would be a bad match-up for LSU but I don't believe in the Hokies' offense.

Eh, I don't know about that. LSU might have played the toughest schedule of any national champion if they do win out, but I don't think they're one of the greatest college football teams ever. Plus, it's hard to credit Alabama for a "best loss" when it mostly came as a result of Alabama screw-ups.

I'm not even sure that the SEC West is the best division in college football. That seems ridiculous considering they're 1-2-3, but I've stated by opinion that Arkansas is drastically overrated; then Auburn is mediocre at best, while Mississippi State is pretty bad and Mississippi is just plain awful. The old Big XII South has 7-1 Oklahoma State, 5-2 Oklahoma, 7-3 Baylor, 6-5 TAMU, 6-4 Texas, and 5-6 Texas Tech. Those teams are a collective 17-1 outside of their conference, with the only loss being TAMU collapsing in the 4th quarter against Arkansas.

I didnt mean "best" loss as on the field. Alabama's loss has actually ended up giving thm an easier road to the mnc. Took at ton of help, but it happend.

I think Alabama goes to the mnc if they beat auburn. OSU cant jump now.

Alabama's in great shape to make the title game. They own a victory already over Arkansas, and regardless of who wins the LSU-Arkansas game, Bama's going to stand at least #2. Heck, if Arkansas wins that game Bama might be #1.

Yeah, they can. Oklahoma State is higher in every computer ranking except two, and will pass Alabama in those if the Cowboys beat the Sooners. The bigger thing is that Harris & USA Today both stupidly dropped OSU to 6th in those polls. That's the only reason Alabama is still in front, but again, if the Cowboys beat the Sooners then they'll move up in those polls as well. Remember that they don't need to be ranked ahead of Alabama in those polls to make the national championship game. If Oklahoma State is 3rd in both polls behind Alabama, they can still leap ahead because of the computers.

Alabama's best chance to get in might actually be if Arkansas beats LSU. If they don't, then Arkansas drops down significantly, which moves up both Oklahoma State and Virginia Tech. The Hokies are probably a longer shot than I thought, as the computers really don't like their schedule. I'm not 100% sure that they'd get in above Alabama even if they move up to #2 in the Harris and USA Today polls, which I expect the voters to do if VT wins out.

actually, the same negative affect on Bama of a LSU win over Arkansas will be felt by OK State because of Oklahoma's loss to Baylor.

It isn't the negative effect on Alabama that matters, it's that Arkansas will drop below Oklahoma State and Virginia Tech. Right now Alabama has a buffer in the BCS rankings because their real competition for the national championship spot isn't right behind them in the polls. Oklahoma's loss to Baylor hurts OSU's chances a little, but not very much. If they can get back up to at least #3 in both polls then that causes problems for Alabama.

    here's some funny shit

apparently, no teams other than Bama, LSU and Arkansas have a prayer of playing for the BCS title.
