Yeah, that's fucked up, that they pay almost as much TAX as an NFL team pays for the entire team salary. How much is the total yankees salary? $150 million or more?

Oh and Two-Six, now that you know this thread is about MLB and not baseball as a sport, don't you have a highway to go play in the middle of?

i am not defending steinbrenner here...but let's at least be accurate. the yankees' payroll was a little over $65 million over the tax threshold. The tax last year was 17.5% of the payroll over $117 million. this resulted in a tax of a little less than $12 million.

even still, revenues from ticket sales, TV, and Radio mean that the yankees still were able to make money despite a payroll of about $185 million.

Nope the Yankees salary is now around 185. The Yankees are playing within the rules of the game. Change the rules, change the game

What needs to happen is since the Yankees make tons of money on their local radio/TV deals, they should get a smaller share of the national TV deal . . . I'm sure MLB could total up how much media revenue each TV generates, comes up with an average, and then come up with a scale where the Yankees (YES Network), Red Sox (NESN), Cubs (WGN), & Braves (TBS) who get more than average revenue from their media deals (since they own/are owned by the networks their TV games are shown on, they should get a smaller share of the national TV pie. Teams like Montreal, KC, Tampa Bay which get less local revenue would get a bigger piece of the national pie . . . . Maybe Commish Bud will figure this out some day   . . Also, salary arbitration needs to be eliminated, but I know the players would never give that up . .

Well said. It makes no difference to me if the Yankees win it all or fall flat on their faces. This is just wrong.
