I signed up for ESPN Insider to watch all the goings on. For all you Braves fans this isn't a good sign.

Nov. 20 - Dwight Gooden, a former Yankee and now a special assistant to team owner George Steinbrenner, tells the N.Y. News that Sheffield, Gooden's nephew, wants to join the Yankees. "If Gary wants it to happen and George wants it to happen, I don't see why it can't," Gooden told the paper. "And Gary definitely wants it to happen. He's impatient; he wanted to do it the first day they could talk about money."
Gooden also told the Daily News that Sheffield has contacted Yankees GM Brian Cashman and is expected to meet with Steinbrenner soon. The report indicates it likely will take a two- or three-year deal worth around $13 million per year to get it done.

Several teams have expressed interest in Sheffield, with Braves GM John Schuerholz telling Insider's Jerry Crasnick the team wants to re-sign the outfielder. "We hope to get Gary back," Schuerholz said. "If that doesn't happen, we'll go to Plan B."

What is plan B? or rather who is plan B?

VPKozel, If Boston hires Francona then a familar name adds the BoSox to his small wish list:
Nov. 21 - The Newark Star-Ledger suggests that if Boston hires former Phillies manager Terry Francona, Schilling could add the Red Sox to the list of teams to which he'd be willing to accept a trade. While the Yankees and Phillies remain the only teams to which the veteran right-hander would accept a trade, the odds of him landing in either New York or Philadelphia now seem minimal.
ESPN's Jayson Stark says sources who have spoken with the Diamondbacks, Yankees and Phillies in the last week indicate Arizona hasn't backed off its request for at least two young, front-line, major-league-ready players in return for Schilling and his $12-million contract.

The Yanees reportedly have moved on to other potential starting pitchers, and the Phillies likely wouldn't want to extend Schilling's contract beyond next season, when they expect the market for starters to be much more favorable.

Is it possible the Yankees are using the heads instead of their wallet?
    Teams in the running

    Braves
    Yankees
    Giants?

Nov. 21 - ESPN's Jayson Stark is hearing the Yankees are getting a little wary of the numbers being floated by Sheffield's camp. The veteran is said to be looking for a three- to five-year deal at about $15 million per, but New York might only be willing to offer the 35-year-old outfielder a two-year deal at between $10 million and $11 million a year. And if that's the case, the Braves likely could out-bid the Yankees.

Oh and Dukie if you think Sheffield is getting bigger bucks than Vlad you are TOTALLY dillusional. Sheffield is 35 and Vlad is still in his 20's. Long term investment
