Barnett toast at Colorado

Yeah, that's the hole in his coaching portfolio -- his teams can't seem to get it done for a whole season. He knows how to get them playing out of their minds for a handful of games every year, really playing up the David and Goliath, chip-on-the-shoulder routine. But when it comes to beating all the teams we're supposed to beat, inevitably the team goes flat at least once, and usually a couple of times. Happens just about every single season.

He's got the program so focused on grabbing part of the national spotlight, playing huge games out of conference, and landing as much TV coverage as possible, that winning our own pathetic conference has dropped almost completely off the priority list. I don't think that will be the case if/when Fresno State or just Hill himself lands in a BCS conference, though. The "anyone anytime anywhere" motto may still hold true, but there won't be the sense of urgency about it the way there is here. In a conference like the Big 10, it's all about conference play -- out of conference matchups are a much lower priority.

 

On a less analytical note, I cannot begin to express how much those losses (particularly La. Tech) disgusted me.
