MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A federal grand jury indicted Alabama booster Logan Young on three counts Thursday, charging him with bankrolling a scheme that steered a star high school player to Alabama, the federal court clerk's office said.

Young, a Memphis businessman, was charged with conspiracy, interstate travel in the aid of racketeering and structuring a financial transaction to evade reporting requirements, the clerk's office said

The indictments are the latest federal charges in a recruiting scandal that was exposed by a former high school coach who has since pleaded guilty to conspiracy. Milton Kirk, a former assistant at Trezevant High of Memphis, admitted taking part in a payoff scheme to send defensive lineman Albert Means to Alabama two years ago.

Authorities say Means apparently knew nothing about the scheme. He played one season at Alabama before transferring to the University of Memphis.

The scandal became part of an NCAA investigation that last year resulted in Alabama being put on five years' probation and banned from bowl games for two seasons. Its number of football scholarships also was reduced.
