It is appropriate. Off topic here, but where did the Bender kid at Louisville end up after the abuse in Halton?

D-League, maybe? I have no idea.

HP, the great tragedy in that saga is that you didn't get a picture of J-Will giving it to Bender. Man, that was NASTY.

sigep, there is no doubt that Cal can recruit. I don't even question his x's and o's. I just think the news today is another chink in his armor. He has thrown his name into the coaching ring this year again, and now he has lost his two star recruits. I still say that Memphis could get a better coach, IMO. I bet had you had a coach that kids believed would be there long term, they might not be dissing you this morning.

I don't think that had anything to do with Perkins' decision. Cal will be there next year, and Perkins wants to be a one-and-done kind of player, so he isn't thinking long-term. It should tell you a lot when the NBA's Director of Scouting says the kid isn't a first round pick and the tems say the same thing, but he listens to his high school coach and stays in the draft anyway. It tells me that we would probably be better off without him.

Bender is at Cincinnati State and is battling academic troubles. Right now UNLV, Colorado and Georgia State are recruiting him to come play.

    good point sig,
The demise of athletics started with AAU basketball. It got basketball, and now it is sinking it's teeth into prep baseball also.

you can say that again......AAU has got a firm grip on baseball. I've seen way too many talented kids (some as young as 7-8 years) get tired of the game simply because the coach's ego makes him thinks he's Joe Torre, Brian Cashman & George Steinbrenner all rolled into one.

Too many of them (AAU coaches) that I'm familar with, feels its the end of the world if a kid, who hasn't reached puberty yet, strikes out with runners in scoring position.

Just curious Metro.......how early did you get into organized tournament baseball as opposed to "rec ball" ???

I've got this though. After searching the archives, this was Bender on the bench after that and Slick Rick pleading for help from the zebra.

    86,
I graduated high school in 91 and AAU did not exist. I played school ball in the spring and legion in the summer, and rec at Matthews in the fall. You don't need a AAU coach to take your 3000 bucks a year to make you a good player. They prey on vulnerability that if you don't get on a AAU team then you won't be seen.
