I know I'm going to get shot to hell for this one, but it's just an idea. What do you think about giving Ray Robinson a shot. We can probably pick him up as a free agent after the draft. I know he's not anything like starter quality, but hey, the mroe the merrier and he might possibly be able to be a solid backup. What do you think?

Or you can call me Johnson...

IMO, all we have is BURB's. We need a starter. Piper said be pateint, but it's been weeks now:confused:

Try, perhaps months. We may stick to our word about not being active in FA this year.

Here's a bit of a rumor. We may be after Mark Fields, according to kffl. He'd play strong side linebacker.

Never been much of a cover guy, so that would be Navies role. But he is fast and is a strong tackler. That still leaves the weakside open.

I for one am frankly shocked that Kevin Hardy is still on the market. He last visited the Steelers, as did Farrior, why they want to spend so much money when Holmes was solid is beyond me.

It'd be one scary linebacking core, but still. That's a lot of money as well.

Robinson is out of NC State, christ fellas, I am from Iowa and I knew that...other than that I know absolutly NOTHING about him. I know I've seen him play, but don't remember anything more than the name and where he's from. That tells me he likely will be available as a Undrafted FA.

What about making a play at Warrick Holdman of Da'Bears?

I would think teams are going to be after him but we could make a play being the fact that depth, whether starting or not, is so thin at LB.

Dam straight he would. When I get a mental image of Fields I see a four foot thick telephone pole.

Yep. I like that thought. Navies could start out as the other cover guy, or the weakside guy could earn it quick.

Neither fit the 3-4 inside very well at all. Holmes is a free agent, but they re-signed Fiala. Holmes, Newman would work at the right price for us strongside, but Holmes will be expensive to a point.

  10. Mag, you keep bringing up mental images like that and Fred will become a Mark Fields fan.

The play I always think of when someone mentions Fields happened a few years back when he was on the Saints. He ran down Isaac Bruce from behind saving a TD. No angles, no Bruce slowing to avoid tacklers...just flat out full speed down the sideline. He may have lost a step since, but at that time he had to be the fastest LB in the league.
