Hey...don't slam ECU....They have and can compete with the ACC...

Not only have they shown that they can play with ACC teams...but other big football programs as well. As far as the basketball program...that is a product of its compitiion.

If they were in the ACC...they would compete just by the recruiting improvements involved..not to mention the ability to attract an even better coaching staff.

So slam ECU all you want....they are as good an addition as BC, VT, or Syracuse....on the field. Now if you want to talk about the location or tv money...then thats another story. But they have the facilities and they have the abiity to comppete.

Oh man, I just spewed soda all over my keyboard. ECU can't compete with the ACC anywhere except on the football field and then only every 4 or 5th year. Geez, Louise, Dude! You lost to DUKE!

How many Varsity sports does ECU even compete in? 16 or so? Not nearly enough, man. The only comparison is Va Tech and they are at least a consistent National top 10 football program. Hell, ECU is rarely in the Top 5 in NC. Hell, the Appys are more consistent!

ECU has come a long way academically and athletically the last 20 years, but you've got about 20 more to go to have a legit gripe about being in the ACC.

everyone in Division I has adequate facilities. It's not a matter of that. ECU has a few steps up to go before it becomes part of a top conference - right now, in a mid-major type situation they're in the best hands for their needs. I'd rather have similar competition on a similar level than be Vandy.

It's not talking down ECU. I have no problems with ECU. But the end result is they don't have their programs where it should be.

    Magnus,

Thanks for saying in an intelligent, respectfull way what I was attempting to say. It's just that the soda burnt my nose and made me a bit grumpy.

Are you kidding me? The past two years have been down, the previous 10 years prior the ACC couldn't come close. As far every other 4-5 year, cause thats how often you guys try to get brave and actually schedule ECU.

VT and ECU were equals on the football field until VT went into the Big East. When ECU gets into a "BSCS" (not a sp?) they could easily dominate the majority if not all of the ACC teams.

I stated you guys could compete with the ACC only on the football field. I stand by the every 4th or 5th year statement, too. When you guys are good, you're pretty good but still no better than 4th in the ACC even in the good years.

I'd love to see the Pirates become a national power. I'd love to see them in a major conference. The football program has potential, but believe it or not, there's more to being in a major conference than football.

I just don't think ECU is a good fit for the ACC right now. Call back in 15 years.

You better look at what ECU has been doing in baseball as well.....and as far as basketball...no not right now...but anyone that can come into a major conference..especially the ACC...can get better players and coaches...and thats what its about....

As far as losing to Duke...that is one game...Listen...I remember ECU owning North Carolina in Football for years...

Obviously those of you...BigVito....don't know squat about ECU. Are you trying to tell me that Boston College is better?

You have to also remember...ECU has played quality teams for years....they have playes Miami, VT, Syracuse, Pitt, West Virginia, State, UNC, ....etc....and have beaten them.

When you make a statement that So slam ECU all you want....they are as good an addition as BC, VT, or Syracuse....on the field. Well, you got a point. You are as good on the field as maybe BC, but you don't have the tradition of a BC or a 'Cuse. You don't have the recent record of success of a VT. You certainly don't bring anything to the table in off the field aspects. No new TV market and ECU does nothing to help in established ones, lower academic standards than the rest of the members, fewer quality athletic programs in non revenue sports, and that's just the basics. I'm not a big fan of VT joining but at least they add something.

Would I want my kid to go to ECU? Yep, no problem there, it's a fine instituion. It's just not the caliber YET to be an ACC school.

    Nothing personal, just my opinion.

bc and syracuse could be in tomorrow if they wanted to, the main stumbling block is the ACC paying off BE to end the lawsuit. ACC just stumbled into the wrong turf. As far as ECU getting in hell then they might as well as admit the rest of the unc athletic system and change the name of the conference to Carolina conference and the others.

    ECU?

BV, sorry but ECU has proven over time they can compete on the field, on the diamond, and for a couple of years there, on the court too. The question is whether you can keep the students off the goal posts every time they beat a worthy opponent. :D I mean, first they have to act like they're used to winning before anyone will take them seriously. But it's well known that they travel well, which means alot to bowl committees.

I will agree that they must first become more established as an acedemic authority although they have improved their law and medical programs drastically. They need to grow up a little, then perhaps they would warrant the ACC's attention.
