ATLANTA (AP) -- Chipper Jones may have played his last game in the major leagues after tearing up his left knee while fielding a ground ball.

The Atlanta Braves said Thursday that the 38-year-old third baseman tore his anterior cruciate ligament and will need surgery. The estimated recovery time is six months, short enough to be ready for the next opening day -- if Jones decides to return in 2011.

He had already said he would consider retirement after a season that's now ended sooner than expected.

#%*@ !!!!! He was starting to be Chipper again at the plate. It's over for him, just can't see him trying to play again in 2011. Now Prado has to get better so Infante is freed up. I'm ok with the Combo of Infante and Conrad at third. More than anything it means that a bat that teams still feared taken out of the lineup. I'd be surprised if Atlanta went after a 3b in a waiver deal but who knows ?

Chipper saying he`ll be back for spring training next year. I don`t think he wanted it to end like this. Hudson throwing another gem and the season is getting way shorter. Its going to be an exciting finish.

I think Chipper is just saying that for the team. I'd be shocked if fhe returned in 2011.

Braves pull out another one in the 9th over the Dodgers. Prado may be back early next week too.

Braves are showing a lot of heart as a team. I know they all want to send Bobby out a winner. But the Phillies ain't going down easy. I see this race being decided in the last week of the season.

Sure is nice to get Prado back. Minor has the look of a good one, reminds me a little of Tom Glavine, hope he wins as many for the Braves.
