Frenchy tries to pull everything. If he can't fix that he won't make it in MLB.

 

I agree. I would like to see him make a concerted effort to take it the other way more often. He is never going to be a Tony Gynn or Rod Carew but he needs to quit swinging at the high heat. He used to be able to lay off the fastball upstairs but now he can't lay off it and he can't hit it.

 

Pat Burrell has done that for years. It just amazes me at how fast people will give up on players.

 

I haven't given up on anybody. He has stunk it up at the plate this year, plain and simple. When he came up to the Bigs, he was a free swinger. It didn't take the opposition long to figure that out. The coaches asked him to start working the count. It seemed to go okay in the beginning. Then he started to slump. He is not only swinging at bad pitches again but is also trying to pull/jack everything out of the park. I hope he gets it fixed because he's a damn good outfielder. He also seems to be a quality young man, that enjoys and appreciates the game.

Dude, this is his fourth year in the league. That's what you consider "not long"? Do you see why that argument makes no sense?

It could be that he's dealing with an injury or something has gone seriously wrong with his mechanics, but the statistics just don't support the idea that he's somehow been figured out by the league. In fact, I don't see anything statistically to indicate that this is more than bad luck. Not only are his walk and strikeout rates in line with his good years (his K rate is not that bad either), his fly ball percentage and line drive percentage are both nearly identical to previous marks as well. Usually if a guy is having some problems with his swing you'll see a spike in either his fly ball or ground ball tendencies, along with a sharp decline in line drives. Francoeur is hitting 20.8% of his balls in play for line drives, which is pretty solid and the best he's done in his career. There's no way that a guy with 20.8% line drives and only 10.1% infield fly outs should be hitting .262 on the balls he puts in play. To anyone familiar with those statistical norms, that screams fluke.

Trust me, I've looked at the numbers in depth. Francoeur is having a nightmare season, but that bad luck will turn eventually.

No, I'm just much more intelligent and knowledgeable than most people. Most fans have no clue about the significance of GB%, LD%, BABIP, IFFB%, or any number of other statistics. Someone who knows what they're talking about can tell the difference between horrid luck and someone who has truly lost it.
