what pisses me off is that they didnt even try to get anybody in the off season when they knew good and damn well they had nothing in the pen. a damn dumbass like me could see that. you gotta be willing to pay someone first and i think therein lies the problem. this team is going nowhere, the streak will end.

You may be correct on the streak ending. The pen is absolutely horrible. Cox will be forced to leave the starters in the game as long as possible. They will be worn out by August.

You are also correct about not wanting to spend money on middle relief. They have brought up several people from the minors. I guess that is just as good as overpaying some washed up veteran.

well, it looks like Ken Ray has been cast as the "new" closer for the Braves. some interesting tid bits from the FOX crew calling the game today. this years Atlanta bull pen is on pace to break the worst ever team bull pen ERA in Atlanta franchise history. they currently stand at 5.02. the record is 5.11. there is some other pretty interesting statistical futility but i'll not go into that right now. lets hope Ray can at least stop the bleeding and secure some wins but he cannot do it all by himself.

anyone looking for a blue print on "how-to-run-a-franchise-into-the-ground" you need look no further than Time Warner.

Betemit deserves to play second base right now. Marcus Giles is doing absolutely terrible and Betemit is good enough to play everyday. Not only that, but the one game he does play he makes a lot of good plays in the field and gets 3 or 4 hits in the leadoff spot AND the Braves won. What is Giles hitting right now? Like .230? That's inexcusable

Furcal and Farnsworth should still be in Atlanta.

As a longtime Braves fan, 40 years and counting, I must say it sure looks like the streak is over. In response to the contention that both Furcal and Farnsworth should have been kept, I do't agree. Farsnworth is all arm and no results, check out his numbers. Furcal with the Dodgers has a subpar OBP not to mention he has been erratic in the feild. Both Farnsworth and Furcal were greatly overpaid by the Yankees and the Dodgers. Yes, Giles is not the answer at leadoff, and yes Reistma is not dependable but to keep Farnsworth and Furcal would not have the Braves in first place right now.

Consider the possibility of trading Smoltz to a contender. It could happen. Smoltz could solve the bullpen problem, although I respect him and admire his carreer. Smotz could bring a lot before the trading deadline although he is as much as anyone, the face of the franchise. Let's face it, the streak could not last forever.
