way to go coops on the 30 lbs. i don't speak for all who are against the atkins, but just because i am, doesn't mean i'm not glad to hear of results like you've had. that is just awesome, and keep up the good work.

as for us anti-atkins people. i'm just worried for y'all down the road. if it works, thats great, but whats gonna happen in the long-run? for me, its a genuine concern, and not a "i'm right, you're wrong" thing.

I'm happy for people that lose weight with Atkins, I just don't think you'll keep it off (and I think history supports my view). If you do, that's GREAT! Nothing better than fewer fat people to look at and pay for their health care (I can't be too positive)!

For Shocker, and then I'm outta this thread: those studies are not contradicting what I've previously posted. Sure, eating meat may not be a risk factor for breast cancer, but you don't often stuff meat and fat through your breasts. You do cause all kinds of problems with your COLON, which is what my statements (also from Harvard and the like) covered (along with other entertainment).

And Boo, I'm glad you think you're in great shape. You're "I guarantee I'm in better shape than you" is just like the "I'll punch you if you post again" posts. Grow up.

Thanks for the concern 26. I guess I look at it this way: do I stay this size and deal with the health consequences or do I find me something that works (counting fat grams, counting calories, using the food pyramid, etc haven't worked for me in the past) and stick to it? I say it now, but obviously can't guarantee it, but I feel that once I'm down in weight, I'm not coming back this way again! I guess if there are long term consequences to this diet, then I'll just have to deal with those later just like any other thing God throws my way!

Find me a study that says just because we're "fat" we use more in health care? I know of skinny people who have had more health issues than myself. I just don't think you can say we use more health care $$ as compared to other people! For the last 5-6 years, the only reasons I have gone into the doctor is for my annual physical, an occasional sinus infection, and a blocked salivary gland.

Fat = higher risk for many diseases/complications. Out of shape = higher risk for many diseases/complications. Heart disease, strokes, and plenty more.

Bootay is right. I am a fat person also and I know the risks and I also know that everyone is inadvertantly paying for my risks.
