The most boring thing I had to do during cardiac rehab as well was riding that bike. The treadmill wasn't near as bad.

I don't get bored doing that as long as I have a good book. I get really bored on treadmills unless I have some good magazines to flip through...

It's not the low-carb diet that negatively affects the kidneys- it's the high protein. I had chemo for almost 2 years after nearly dying of kidney failure. For several years I was on a low-protein diet because of my kidney function (or lack thereof). So in the case of kidney disease/failure, it's not the carbs, but the protein that can kill you.

Carbohydrates and fats give calories. Calories from carbohydrates and fats are important to keep body tissues from being broken down for energy. Carbohydrates and fats do not cause the build up of wastes. If you do not eat enough calories, your body will get calories from muscle protein. This makes protein wastes that will build up in your blood.

I think its commonly know that anyone with existing kidney problems need to avoid very high protein diets. Thats not really Akins related but just diet related in general. I think everyone has agreed those with existing kidney problems don't go on Atkins or any diet with high protein.

Im going back to walking a mile a night. I think thats what helped me loose weight last year. I dont jog because of my right knee. If I did Ide be on crutches most of the time because of the hard impact jogging has on the knee. I found riding my bike, working my way up to five miles a night was a lot better on my knee. When I quit doing those two things I quit losing weight. Now Im going to back doing those two things but work my way up to walking longer and riding the bike longer. Cant tell me walking and biking are not exersising.

    One last post on Atkins...

You NEED to take daily supplements. This is EXTREMELY important. You can have health related problems by not getting enough iron or other vitamins daily.

I take Centruim because its easy to find and relatively inexpensive.
