Here's the link to his official site Larry...:) http://atkinscenter.com/ Essentially, it's no carbs - high protein, high fat - anything that can get you into ketosis - which helps you burn fat. Warning though - some have found this too hard on the kidneys - and personally, I didn't feel `100%' on this diet. Still, not everyone experiences this. I lost a lot of weight in the first week - then nothing for a month, so I gave it a miss. :( I have to say though - I enjoyed my time of eating KFC, bacon and eggs for breaky and steak for dinner...with the fat on... Good luck! :)

I had the exact same experience, Honeygirl. I lost an initial 7 lb in the first week getting rid of my glycogen stores and some water, but after that nothing. And I didn't cheat once. A miss for me too, I'm afraid.

    Welcome, NC
I just read the first part of the book (newest edition), and decided not to go on the diet. I only need to lose 20 lbs, and all the stories in there were of people that were anywhere from 75 lbs overweight upwards. Also my dad did Atkins a while back, said he lost more weight when he just quit soft drinks and stopped eating bread and potatoes.

What really kept me from doing Atkins was the limited choice of drinks. Can't really drink any kind of juice or milk. Says you can drink only decaf coffee, but I hate coffee anyway. And NO alcohol the first 2 weeks. Fuck that. Also, most of the green stuff it would let you eat, I hate. I would have been eating only meat and cheese, and drinking only water. I'd rather be fat.

Anyway, I decided just to cut out soft drinks, and bread, potatoes, and pasta. Anything else is fair game and just going to try to watch the fried stuff and fat. I lost 25 lbs on this diet several years ago. Also, exercise every day for a minimum of 1 hour. After a month I should have lost at least 10 lbs.

Not saying Atkins isn't good for some people, but it ain't my bag baby. :)

If you are really feeling energetic try Body For Life You can buy the book anywhere they sell books.

  6. Excellent suggestion. I was on this for 12 weeks and it makes total sense. I've been sickly again lately, but as soon as I feel better, I'm going back on for another 12 weeks - at least.

    Larry,

Forget about until after the holidays. It's a change in diet that isn't worth making yourself miserable throughout December.

I'm on day 2 of Atkins. So far, so good. I haven't been hungry since I get to eat meats and stuff. I have never had a sweet tooth, so avoiding sugar is no problem for me. Breads are tough to avoid, but they say after you avoid carbs for a little while, your appetite for them diminishes. We'll see...

BTW Larry, you don't look like you need to lose weight at all.

  9. ole bob phillips doesn't ever mention that the failure rate for his program is over 99%....but he sure does sell a lot of EAS products, doesn't he?

i've done the peak 10 workout a few times -- its a 10-week program. it's great if you can stick to it. hell, i could stand to lose about 30 pounds. getting the time to exercise is harder to come by these days, so i was just wondering if there was a dietary solution.
