I did some reading on Norse mythology when younger. I think I related more to Loki than to Thor at that time :)

So did I, especially when I was really into D & D. Ecilam's right -- Odin and Thor do kick butt. :D

You know, I was half-joking with this thread, but as for the values and ideals of this religion, I could see myself getting into it.

    Boldness/Courage/Bravery
    Truth
    Honor
    Troth/Fidelity
    Discipline/Self-Rule
    Hospitality
    Industriousness
    Free-Standing/Self-Reliance
    Perseverance

These are the Virtues of Asatru as copied from one of the sites. Man. They don't make 'em like they used to... :(

Religions evolve with the times. I wonder what the next iteration will be after Christianity?

Please tell me how Judaism has evolved over the past 4000 plus years. Same time frame for Budhism (I think). And how Christianity has evolved over the past 2000 or so years? And how has Islam chnged over the past 1600 or so years? Preesh.

And I'm talking core beliefs, since that is what would have to change to have a new "iteration."

For one, they no longer sacrifice animals and grain for sin offerings. That was a core belief of Judaism that actually set the stage for Christianity -- forgiveness of sin does not come without the shedding of blood. What they do now to compensate for that, I don't know. Also, much of the pageantry has been lost (garb of the high priests, etc.). I think overall, Judaism has become much more casual and forgiving than it was at its inception.

Christianity has changed tremendously over the past 1900+ years, if you compare the teachings of Christ to some denominations. Others, not so much.

Islam may be (for the most part) one of the most unchanged of the world's major religions. It's also one of the youngest, and is rooted in a culture that has not changed drastically (again, generally speaking) since Mohammad wrote the Qur'an around 600 A.D.
