BOSTON — Indiana forward Ron Artest was pelted by debris from fans at the FleetCenter as he headed to the locker room after the Pacers were eliminated Thursday.
The 6-7, 245-pound Artest had to be restrained by more than a half-dozen local law enforcement officers and several Pacers Sports & Entertainment officials from going into the stands.
Artest, who chipped a tooth on the play in which he picked up his sixth foul, was enraged after being hit in the face with an unidentified object moments after the game.
It wasn’t until Pacers director of player personnel Mel Daniels intervened, with help from Pacers consultant and broadcaster Quinn Buckner, that Artest was finally escorted to the locker room. Daniels and Artest got into a shoving match, with Daniels finally guiding Artest into the locker room. Artest, who scored 20 points and grabbed five rebounds, left the arena without speaking to the media.
