    CHARLOTTE - The Panthers have placed tight end Chris Manhertz on injured reserve, replacing him on the 53-man roster with offensive tackle Blaine Clausell.

    Manhertz, who played in all 16 games and caught two passes for 17 yards, has a high ankle sprain that would have sidelined him for the playoffs.

    Clausell, who has been on Carolina's practice squad all season, signed a contract through the 2019 season. The Panthers filled his spot with guard Dorian Johnson, a 2017 fourth-round draft pick by the Cardinals who played at the University of Pittsburgh.

    The Panthers also have signed cornerback Lorenzo Doss to a future contract. Doss was a fifth-round pick by the Broncos in 2015 out of Tulane.

    Jon Gruden has won at life. You have to tip your cap to the guy. Be incredibly competent or be incredibly charismatic. He's definitely the latter. He's won the game.
