Acting like a jilted 16 year old girl is the new power play.

Reading a lot of Eric Beiniemy victimhood fanfiction this morning. Maybe he's not getting a head coaching job because he sucks? It sounds like the Chiefs aren't even committed to retaining him as OC, which is a figurehead title under Andy Reid, by the way.

The NFL could commit to minor league system to develop players and coaches. You know like every other sport does. This would give the Bienemy's of the world a chance to get a lower stakes job showing their HC prowess.

Another variable that no one discusses is who the fuck would want these jobs? You get money and status in exchange for no life whatsoever. You're working 16 hours, every day, for three to ten years, mostly dealing with monotonous bullshit. You'll never see your family, save for a week or two right after the season, and maybe one day in May, when you're playing in a celebrity Pro-Am. Aside from those 10 days or so, you won't have time for anything else other than football - more specifically, managing other people who get to spend all of their time on football, so you don't even really get to enjoy actual football. Also, you're typically dealing with a co-boss, otherwise known as a General Manager, who's theoretically your ally but really really wants to undermine you as much as possible. Same with your real boss, except that he knows nothing about your profession, but acts like your equal just because he's successful in an unrelated field.

Are you sure you want that?

The whole bargain is sort of self-selective.

HC usually makes way more than the assistants, owners are fine shelling out 4 million a year for the guy with the challenge flag but balk at more than a million for the people actually coaching the players. I can see that being a factor since the lower guys already work the same retarded hours.

None of these jobs seem desirable, but assistants get to at least coach football and probably get longer breaks in the offseason. All of my time spent at training camp, the position coach looks like he's actually having fun showing up to work. The head coach looks perpetually miserable.

I guess the ones who have it made are the head coaches who are talented enough to also be great playcallers, since they still get to play around with their creative side, but that's like four or five people on the planet. Most of them are just locked into a management role like Rivera. Waking up every morning having to deal with 50 stupid things, like a player having a Spartanburg ho in their dorm last night.

This is random but relevant. I remember listening to an interview with Gene Chizik one time. He was talking about the profession and e everything it entails, and he mentioned the best coach he's ever been around was the DC at Middle Tennessee. The guy never sought promotion because he was happy with his job and the work/life balance. Made enough money to keep the bill collectors happy.

That's most football coaches, probably. Nameless, faceless. Doing what they love, happy to not be "promoted" into a lifetime of misery.

Unless theres a mass boycott of prime/cable/disney+ they don't care. This was coming as soon we let them hide a game behind ESPN/NFLN and that happened in 1987 according to wikipedia. Amazon is just the new paywall to watch the panthers lose to Atlanta this october.
