This part pisses me off, we could've afforded him:

Armstead, 31, was released Thursday by the New York Giants after nine seasons. He will sign a three-year, $4.5 million contract that includes a signing bonus of $1.25 million and base salaries of $750,000 (2002), $1 million (2003) and $1.5 million (2004).

Bot to say it's not a done deal yet, but he said he wanted something done fast. I can't believe he would not even talk to Fox before signing anything.. It really sucks, but maybe Fox was not that interested. Who knows.

I wonder if signing Armstead is such a good idea. I think I heard he was disruptive in the Giants locker room last season besides having a down year. But more importantly I read in an article that was posted on the CBS Sportsline site that he played all last season with a torn hamstring. It makes me thing that perhaps he is damaged goods and Fox knows it. (kinda like Chuck Smith)

Snider got a blue light special

Hamstrings can be recurring problems (Moose), but there not the same kind of degenerative problems incurred like Knee issues.

Yes, I'm a little ticked at this. He could have fit well under our cap. I'm hoping we didn't say no to a bargain for a good player in March just to see if we can get a bargain in April.

If Snyder had given him a bunch of money, I'd be ok. But Snyder getting a player like Armstead CHEAP, that's a bit unsettling.

kffl is reporting that he did try to work something out with us first, out of respect for fox, but we couldn't fit him under our cap. i'ld like to think we have a plan, but i'm getting tired of relying on thinking that.

Armstead is 31 years old.....obviously on the downside of his career. Maybe the Panthers have learned that signing big name players on their way out doesn't work. Especially now with the youth movement. I guess all we can do is watch and see how he does for the Skins next season.

Read this.......it is an excerpt from an AP article I got in my email.

Armstead, 31, has made the Pro Bowl for five consecutive seasons and has not missed a game in his nine-year career, but his Pro Bowl selection this past season probably had more to do with reputation. He wasn't the force he had been in previous years, and he was hampered for five games with a hamstring injury.

I do believe that we wanted him. I don't give us that foresight to say "no, he's aging, he's going to be injured."
But it might be somewhat of a blessing in disguise that we didn't anyway. We'll see.

ARMSTEAD HELD BACK BY BUM KNEE
Many folks are wondering why a five-time Pro Bowl linebacker got so little money from the Redskins. However, a league source tells us that Jesse Armstead’s three-year, $4.5 million deal, which included a signing bonus of $1.25 million, reflects the reality that Armstead has been battling a bum knee.
In fact, some folks within the Redskins front office are wondering why the team didn’t include protections (such as the so-called “split year” clause) intended to trigger a lower base salary in the event that Armstead’s knee becomes a major problem during one of the three years of his new contract.
For now, Armstead will pocket his $1.25 million bonus, and his base salaries won’t be diminished by injury. Again, these below-market numbers reflect the fact that there are questions about his knee. Regardless, if the knee goes in the middle of a given season, the Skins will be forced to swallow his full salary.
