Moving to Charlotte next week and need a gym. I'll be working uptown and living out Tryon towards the golfing center (leathermans?).

Anyone familiar with the area enough to offer suggestions?

Dowd YMCA is at Morehead and S. Blvd. You could work out there at lunch...
If you are living near Leathermans, there is another Y at Arysely Village, about 5 min. south of Leathermans. If you get the Metro Y membership you can work out at both. $61/month plus joining fee though.

Dowd Y - you better not be homophobic.

Uptown and Gateway Y - gateway has the newest equipment and is the cleanest.

There is a nice gym in founders hall - next to the BofA corporate center.

south end - there is a high tech gym next to the spaghetti factory.

the steele creek Y is near where you are going to live.

peak fitness has 14 locations..they just bought out all of the local gold's gyms. bally's has a pineville and south blvd location. peak and ballys will be a hell of lot cheaper than the Y. A YMCA metro membership costs about $65/month...and they have a hefty joining fee.

Don't listen to Boo, Russ. He's as queer as a 3 dollar bill, just like ALL of the gyms he mentioned.

I use the Peak Fitness Metro plan.
$25 a month had no joining fee.
They also offer unlimited tanning for an extra $20.

    No problems there for me.

yeah....I'm not sure what Boo's problem is....I tend to see enough attractive women at the Y that I wouldn't even notice if the rest were pygmies

It's not like I stare at people enough to figure out their sexual preference

if you're just moving here, will be living in an apartment?

most every apartment community around here has pretty nice fitness centers
