The quality of basketball was down in the tourney because it was more rugby than basketball. Playing without rules is the eternal equalizer.

Well to be fair I didn't start watching college ball until 1989, Danny Ferry's senior year. But I know Michael Jordan and Sam Perkins were on that team, and they lost in the Sweet 16. Not sure who they lost to though.

In the immortal words of Coach K after the LSU game, "Duke doesn't need excuses, son. We just got beat by the better team."

You can't really compare those UNC teams to this year's Duke team. Duke had two great players and a good freshman in McRoberts. The rest were roleplayers and I really think Paulus will be good, but he was only a freshman. Past Duke teams that won the whole thing were absolutely loaded. Jason Williams and Battier were co-players of the year, but the difference is that on all 3 title teams they all had experienced PG play, and outstanding roleplayers. 6 players off that Duke team in 2001 ended up being at least an Honorable Mention All American sometime during their careers and Dunleavy, James, and Duhon were roleplayers. You can have 2 good players and still get torched easily. You have to be extremely strong all around and Duke wasn't that strong outside of Williams and Redick. I mean UNC had four lottery picks last year and barely won the title. That is how hard it is to win the title. You can say all you want about Duke choking but UCONN is the biggest choke of this tournament. UCONN had just as much talent on this year's team as UNC's team last year. They don't have four lottery picks, but They have 8 guys on that team that will end up being drafted (At least) and Gay and Williams will be lottery picks and Hilton Armstrong probably will be late first round (God the draft sucks this year). How they struggled being that strong at every position is beyond me.

do they not count as much when you "barely win" the title? :cuda:

and PJ Tucker over Aldridge from Texas? seems like an odd choice there.

Not surprised Hansbrough made only third team - AP is usually more senior/junior oriented

and Brain - Perkins got his title too :trophy:
