Wouldn't a more talented coordinator be able to come up with different game plans that utilize the different strengths of the players though? Obviously, it's not like you could magically make dook beat Miami, but we are talking about some pretty talented players on FSU's offense, aren't we?

Anyway, I would reserve judgment on either of these offenses because both teams' defenses looked just plain unstoppable.

No, which is the problem I keep pointing out. Wide receivers (the position that Jeff Bowden has coached, incidentally) Alex Barron, and Janikowski are the only FSU offensive players of NFL significance in recent years. Some others like Minor and Greg Jones have made NFL rosters but done little. Meanwhile Miami has a substantial number of running backs and linemen making an impact at the professional level.

So, it's kinda like the situation when Gutheridge took over at UNC? Guys who really weren't that good were rated highly by everyone just becasue UNC was recruiting them?

According to Rivals.com (they, along with Scout.com are the biggest recruiting website out there) Florida State has killed in recruiting...

    2002-4th in the country
    2003-21st in the country
    2004-3rd in the country
    2005-2nd in the country
    2006-3rd in the country

Their classes were made up of people with offers from all of the top schools in the country. These guys weren't given 4 and 5 stars because of FSU's offer...it was because they had offers from ALL the D1 schools...

    So the talent IS there.

Oh...and this really IS my last post in this thread.

I'm not familiar enough with FSU's recruiting history to say whether or not the running backs, quarterbacks, and linemen were highly rated. Larry could presumably speak to that. I only know that from what I've seen, they often simply aren't good players, while Jeff Bowden has been taking the blame.

    Freakshow:
Defensive talent. The NFL drafts largely on the basis of talent, and if more offensive players at FSU actually were talented (aside from the WRs, as mentioned), they'd have meaningful roles in the NFL. As of right now, they don't. Meanwhile FSU's defensive players are all over NFL rosters.

That's what I'm talking about though. Gutheridge's classes where pretty highly rated too, but contained the likes of Jeff Capel, Adam Boone, Brian Morrison.

I'm not trying to knock anyone, but that kind of stuff does happen.

    Fuck it...I gotta keep commenting!

    From recruiting only...

    2004 #7 RB in the nation...Jamaal Edwards
2004 #25 All Purpose Back in the nation...Lamar Lewis

    2005 #1 APB in the nation...Antone Smith
    2005 #3 APB in the nation...Russell Ball

And looking at the OL's they recruited, FSU should be able to get 7-9 yards per rush against anyone.

If you look at FSU's recruits, these guys were coveted by Florida, Penn State, USC, Texas, Ohio State...they were highly rated because the players kicked ass.

Sadly, you keep missing the point. On the field to someone with an experienced eye like mine, the offensive players (aside from the wide receivers) do not look good. I don't judge players solely based on their statistics, I do it based on what I see, and what I have seen hasn't been impressive at all. Moreover, NFL teams regularly take talented guys who were coached poorly or misused in college and turn them into studs. But as I noted, FSU is barely even represented among NFL offensive starters.

Seriously, you lost this argument long ago. You made an ass out of yourself by attempting to correct me without knowing what you were talking about and you embarrassed yourself. You should quit now, because with every post you're only making it worse.

    LOL! You crack me up.

FSU is loaded with talent. They just haven't been well coached over the last several years.
