I saw it. It may as well be in Iowa - meaning tallahassee wasn't part of the plot, really.

Decent flick. Entertaining. IMO, very one sided towards Gore. SUPER Critical of Harris ( funny portrayal by Laura Dern ).

Really an amazing election, that was. IMO, that shit was a draw, by any statistical account. When votes are that close ( in the single fucking digits ) it seems impossible to actually come up with a 'winner' by vote. Too much wrangling over dimpled chads and intent.

I thought the most amazing part of the thing was the elimination of registered voters who had names similar to felons. This was done by the sec of state ( republican ). There was no mention of this in the movie as a dirty trick, just that it was done. The dems found out about it, but there was no way to correct it as the vote was over. They did not mention in the movie that it likely took mostly dem votes.

I have to think it was done intentionally and legally ( though not very moral ). Basically, IMO, if you scrub out felons, you're probably scrubbing out blacks. If you're scrubbing out people with similar names ( ostensibly to insure you got rid of the felons ), you're scrubbing out more blacks, and therefore democrat votes. Really, really clever shit.

You HAVE to wonder how much shit like this happens EVERY election cycle. I HAVE to presume each party manipulates every part of the system that they can in order to insure victory. I would presume that a great amount of resources on both sides are spent on these types of SHENANIGANS.

Really, it indicates to me that the winners of close elections are not necessarily the will of the people.

Haven't seen it but Ebert and whoever were talking about how it portrayed both sides quite badly. Did you sense that?

could very well be true, but it's a movie, not investigative journalism

True, but the name scrubbing happened.

Dems were portrayed as kinda underdog fighters of the good fight - i thought.

Remember that Roger Ebert is a far left liberal who has repeatedly made statements about the importance of making movies that criticize this administration. He was probably just trying to make it sound fair when it was anything but.

Amazingly, our elections are far less crooked than ever, we just hear about that stuff more often. In the old days, dead people and pets voted often, especially for Democrats. You also don't hear much about Gore operatives who were caught passing out cigarettes and other items to homeless people if they would agree to get in the vans and be driven to a voting center.

Did they mention how the major networks calling Florida for Gore too early and incorrectly, suppressed Bush's votes in the western states who still had polls open? Did it go into the democrats efforts to get the votes of military people serving abroad to not count?

i heard a guy on POTUS08 the other day who was talking about how he was hired to screw up the democrat election office in some city on election day. they bombarded the office with bogus calls to prevent them from getting the vote out. i think he said he served 3 months in prison for it.

Yeah he was a republican operative I've heard of that guy.

And yes - the possible lack of voting due to the networks calling it was brought up by the guy who played James Baker.

FWIW - I'm sure that cost Gore votes as well.

I have to say I would LOVE to have the job of fucking with elections. LOVE IT. I'm just a mischevious ************, I guess. I wouldn't even care who it was for.
