I'm a bit overwhelmed by the game. It goes on forever. I started my second game after reading up on how the leveling works and I'm coming out a bit better this time. I didn't realize with the first game that every time you level the bad guys do too and it was just too hard. I was leveling but not in the right way.

I got bit by a vampire tonight. Cured that by eating a 'shroom. Had no idea what I was getting into when I went into that place on the hill.

I play it..very addictive...I had one character (assassin) that I LET become a vampire, to see what cool creepy powers I'd get...some were cool, but I'd burn up in the daylight, and villagers would run from me..

..what do you mean by "level up the right way " ?

All other RPGs that I have played it was best to level up as quick as you could. In Oblivion the bad guys are level based meaning that when you level they level.

When you use your min skills you increase the amount that the governing attribute can be increased when you do level up while using your max skills is what actually makes you level up. You want to control your leveling so that you get to increase what ever attribute that you are going to increase by 5 each time that you level. So make the skills that you are going to use the most your min skills and the ones that are the most controllable your max skills. That way you will have a fighting chance with the bad guys when you get to higher levels.

    Here's a link to an explanation.http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Efficient_Leveling

It's a great game, I've been playing it on and off for a year now. The story line is not as good as the previous Elder Scrolls game, Morrowind, but it's still good.

There's different ways of making workable/successful characters. Conjuration is a great skill (though you can have only one summoned creature at a time). A mage with conjuration and destruction can be really, really fun.

Stealth and Archery are a fun combination, also. You need to have those as major skills, though, as trying to develop them from a low level can be frustrating.

Then there's the old bash-n-smash standard.

Regardless, a great help is creating enchantments through the use of sigil stones (found in the oblivion gates). Though they may seem tough, the oblivion gates are also generally leveled to the character. You can create more powerful items through sigil stones than you can ever enchant otherwise.

One fun alternative for getting through the gates is 'running the gauntlet.' I like to do it with a conjurer. Run like HELL once you are in the Oblivion Gate towards the main tower. DO NOT STOP TO FIGHT, just rush past all the enemies. With a conjurer, you can summon a creature to occupy them a little as you rush by. Regardless, keep going and heal up (potions, blood fonts, or spells) as you go. Try not to stop, because you'll be developing an increasingly large following of uglies behind you.

Once you get to the top of the tower, QUICKSAVE before you grab the sigil stone. After you grab it, if it doesn't have an enchantment that you like or can use, the reload and try again.

I haven't found any gates yet. I'm on my second character, level 3. First character was just too weak because of the hurry to level without taking into consideration the leveling of the bad guys.

Follow the main quest, and you'll run into one soon enough. Actually, you need to follow the main quest partially to get the Oblivion Gates popping up all over the place.

Basically, go turn the Amulet in, and then go to find the heir in Kvatch. You have to close the gate at Kvatch to follow the main quest.

I've heard great things about this one, but I'm not sure my rig has the RAM or processing speed to handle it without shitting itself. I'm also not big on the first -person shooter perspective in a fantasy game. Is there a way to change to third person in-game?

The R key changes the perspective. It's helpful sometimes.

Paladin, I'm still puttering around Chorrol. I think that I'm going to head out next time I play though. I'm finding it hard to get time to play because I need more time than an hour here and there. Last time I played I was up until 2:30 in the morning. Started at 6. :stunned:

If your computer lags or is having problems with the game, one of the easiest fixes is to turn the grass off. I've got a mid-level vid card (Radeon X850 XT), and it helps with mine. I can play with the grass, with some occasional lagging, but I prefer to turn the grass off. Without the grass it is easier to find corpses of slain enemies (to loot), their dropped weapons, and plants for alchemical ingredients. The grass is pretty, but it's a hinderance.

    JH,
Yeah, it's definitely one of the games that can take some time. If you're in the Chorrol area though, it's not far to Weynon Priory. Although, while you're still in Chorrol, you might want to do the quest where you help the farmer's sons fight off the goblins - it gives you a magical sword to start off with, as long as you keep the sons alive, that is. The sword is leveled, and is not that strong at early levels, but it still gives you something to hit ghosts and other critters with normal weapon resistance.

    Went to Weynon first.

That sword is leveled? I think that I sold it. My fine steel long sword does more damage right now. Crap! Killed the goblins. Did the mage guild quest there and got my lightening gift. Went all through the vampire place on the hill and didn't find the helmet.

I'm gonna have to go start my game now and see if I sold that sword. I had some kind of enchanted war hammer or war ax too.:57:
