All these comparisons of USC this year with the best teams of the last 50 years when they haven't even won the national title. I hate Texas, but I think that it would be great if they beat USC and just shut everyone up, and having fans vote on teams that they don't even know about is just retarded. The '94 Penn State, '96 Gators, and '99 Florida State Seminoles would beat the crap out of this year's USC defense. USC's defense gave up 42 points to Fresno State for God sakes who came in third place in the WAC. Sure they have a good offense, but Notre Dame's defense is average at best and they held USC to 31 points, and it helps that they play in the Pac-10 where there is no defense at all. USC defense sucks, and to even compare them with last year's team is a joke. Last year's USC team would wipe the floor with this team, and to say they are better than the Nebraska's of the 90's, Penn State, and Florida State (Who beat the ever living crap out of the #2 and #3 ranked teams) is just stupid. Sorry, just a bunch of anger, especially since Mark Maye is saying that USC's defense can stop Texas when they can't even stop Paul Pinegar. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

2004 USC was definitely better than 2005 USC, so yeah, I don't know why the comparisons are necessary. Consideration of their dynasty is worthwhile, because it's a pretty awesome feat in this era, but the '05 version isn't one of the all-time greats.

I started that post before the beginning of this season, and I think that he was definitely overrated last season, but not this season. He was #3 in the Heisman voting and he didn't even have a 100 yard rushing game, and he's a running back! Obviously he played a ton better this year, but people would say that he was what #6 in all purpose yards last year. That's what a punt and kickoff returner (he handled some kickoffs last year as well) will get you in the defenseless PAC-10. This year, I can't say he is overrated. He's averaging 9 yards a carry, but last year I believed that he was.

I'd still like to have seen 2004 Auburn vs 2004 USC. USC should be the better team but I believe they could have managed a better game than that lame ass game Oklahoma put up.

I like how all the commentators dismiss the co-NC LSU Tigers when they jabber on about going for three in a row. That was a helluva good team. I realize they do it mainly for the usual hype factor this year but USC wouldn't have been a guaranteed win vs LSU that year.

Last year's Auburn team was one of the best teams of the past couple of decades, and no one recognizes it because they got jobbed by the BC$.

And that's coming from a UT fan. I was at our game against them. They were unreal. I don't think USC would have beaten them. Auburn could have run the ball for 300 yards on that overrated defense.

Yes, I'm very tired of all the comparisons, which is why I regret reading this thread.

I agree with HardHarry. We had a great Georgia team last year, and they beat the crap out of us, and would have beaten us twice in a row. What sucks is, I think if Georgia or Penn State went undefeated this year there's no way that they would be in the national title cause the media hype wants Texas. I hate how they disregard the LSU game also. LSU deserved to be in the national title game and Oklahoma didn't. they didn't even win their conference that year, and LSU's defense was unbelievable and that USC team was good but not as great as the past year. LSU and Matt Mauck would have beaten them. The top 5 schools in the SEC this year would have won the Pac-10. Oregon is ranked so high because they didn't play anyone. They beat Fresno State by 3, got pounded by USC and didn't play a ranked team the rest of the year. They didn't even play UCLA. I think if you put any school that is in the top 15 or 20 right now in the PAC-10 conference they would run train on it no problem and seeing Arizona State's defense last night against Rutgers just made me believe it even more.

UT? I think that toughie against the Citadel would be a more appropriate yardstick to use. :imagestor

them saying that USC would score 31 against that Alabama D might be the dumbest thing Herbstreit has ever said. They scored 31 against one of the worst passing defenses in the country in Notre Dame, and Alabama averaged about 30 points a game that year. One of the most dominating team. The only defense that was better was in 1992 when Alabama only gave up something like 27 points. USC gave up more points in the Fresno and Arizona State games than Alabama gave up all season. What a joke.
