what is it with the freaking umpires? i watched part of a game tonight and the home plate umpire was calling strikes all over the place. i remember the same thing happening in the LLWS games in williamsport last season. it is ridiculous. these guys are taking the bat out of these kid's hands sometimes....forces them to swing at bad pitches a lot. has anyone else noticed?

They show the kids' mothers way too often, which makes me unable to watch any of the games.

Kids swing at just about everything anyway. It's probably hard keeping a consistant strike zone with size difference of these kids...some of them are 4 feet tall, others 6 feet.

i agree clt2002...there is too much of the parents for my tastes. plus, the other night, one of the teams' fans brought these ridiculously loud air-horns. the kids are 11 and 12, and you need to make all that freaking noise? i think the team won...so they should ban those things from williamsport.

RS, i won't deny that kids that age are free swingers. but these are the best of the best. some of these kids can really play. how are they supposed to practice good plate discipline when they do not knowwhat will be a strike and what will be a ball? this is the biggest game of their lives...and a ball that is 6 inches outside is a strike. a big leaguer can make that adjustment...not a 12 year old...at least not in my opinion. just the other night, i see a ball that is way off the plate called a strike. the next pitch is in the exact place and the kid has to swing or get rung up. he never had a chance to touch it.
