Because I'm out of shape and weak. Plus I would like to lose 3 inches. Don't know if I can do it so it's not really a goal. The main reason is to be healthier.

Chatters don't belong in a gym. All they do is tie up the machines. Get in/get out cause I gotta fly.

that's probably my biggest pet peeve in the gym...the people chatting and hogging machines they aren't using. I wouldn't mind if they chatted while not camping out on a machine but more times than not, they hog the machine while chatting. that's one benefit of working out in the morning, the people who are there are there to work out...not talk...they've got to go to work afterwards so they move pretty fast.

I take an MP3 player too. It really helps me. I like some pretty fast and hard metal so it helps me get going.

My suggestion, fwiw, keep a log and mark your progress. Like Boo said, have a definite goal in mind and work towards it. That's what works for me.

I have to agree with Sly and Boo, chatters don't belong in the gym. If you go only just to go without any real goals you would be better off finding something else to do with your time. I don't think many people find going to the gym fun persay. But if working out was easy and fun I think more people would do it.

I don't hog machines. And I have every right to be there chatting or not. Plus going to the gym to get up and move without any goal other than that is better than being still watching tv or being on a computer.

I did. It helped to stay motivated for serveral months but obvious it does nothing to get me going back after not going for awhile.

You have probably stated the most true reason that most people dont hang with a workout program for the long haul. It takes real dedication to keep going back day in and day out. You have to make yourself go when you dont feel like it. Some can hack it, some cant. For me, I have gone through several phases of "working out" in my life. Usually from lifting to running, back and forth with that for several years at a time. Weight training is the best because it involves more muscle groups and cardio can be easily added within your workout routine. You're gonna have to make yourself do it, kinda like doin the laundry or mowing the grass...put your shoulder to the wheel and dont think about it til its over. Peace.
