After that great showing against McNeese St my expectations for 2008 have taken a downturn. It's just one game I know but damn... Rutgers on the road?
Not much of a chance unless they do a 180 from week 1.

Rutgers sucks. UNC wins in a close one.

take it for what it is, but some players were saying the coaches used that game after the long delay as more of a scrimmage to test running backs, wide recievers and defensive schemes. We will see if that was the case or not tonight, and if the players are ready for a real game tonight

That would have been bad if they lost that game. I thought the Fall and Spring practices were for testing RB's and WR's. Waiting til the game to test people is to late and it almost cost them the game. It is different in basketball and baseball because it's one game out of 30 or 40 games, but in football if you are testing people and lose that game, that could be the difference between going to a bowl game and staying home.

Given that Carolina was trailing for a good part of the game, that's obviously bullshit. I don't want to hear any players making those kinds of excuses. They were getting their butts kicked and they need to play better.

Define a good part of the game. At most it was a few minutes in the 3rd quarter.

Other than that your point is valid in terms of players. I can see the coaches planning on "experimenting" assuming they were gonna go up 3 or 4 TD's in the first half, but after that rain delay, all hiding of the playbook bullshit should have ended right then and there.

Continuously running into an 8 man front is cute until u begin to trail a I-AA team in the second half.

This is the second time I've read something similar (other being the Heels didn't open up their playbook) and my Snopes radar says this is false.

When you are getting your butts kicked by McNeese St at the home opener ( and being behind by any margin is getting your butt kicked, I don't care how good a 1-AA team they are) you don't hold back, you don't play around with the roster like it's a pre-season game. It's wishful thinking by some over-zealous Heels fans to think the Heels coasted through the second half.

As for tonight's game I would say it's a tossup. Too early to tell if Rutgers is bad as the Fresno St loss portends. Can't read a lot into the Heels squaeking by McNeese St. Rutgers gets advantage being at home. They are playing to keep from starting 0-2 so they have some strong incentive there.

Hope the Heels show up and finally win one on the road.

You're right. I didn't see the game, I just saw the ticker score in the 3rd quarter and didn't see it again until the 4th quarter, but apparently McNeese didn't hold the lead for very long.

i listened to that game on the radio and the UNC defense could not get off the field after that storm delay. if it had not been for the heroics of Brandon Tate, they could have very well lost that game.

we'll see what they got tonite. that young defensive line had better come to play or it will get UGLY. Rutgers will be pissed after their poor performance against Fresno St.

I agree, I also think it was an excuse. I think they overlooked MSU, and didn't take them seriously - especially the defense. Tonights game will prove what UNC team we can look forward to this year.
