Ever been on a 10 or 14 day regimen of an antibiotic and got the rip-roarin' runs from it?

Antibiotics kills bacteria. That's what they are made to do. But they aren't picky about what type of bacteria they kill. You have a natural bacteria (flora) growing in your gut that helps digest food. If the flora is killed, food gets passed along without proper digestion- therefore- the runs.

I've found a product at the grocery store that helps rebuild that flora. (Yogurt also helps, but I don't like yogurt. If you do use yogurt for this purpose, make sure it says "live culture" on it!) It's called 'Dan-Active' by Dannon. It's a 100ml bottle you just open and chug daily while you're on the antibiotic.

Augmentin usually rips my gut apart and I've been drinking one of these every day and my stomach has not been bothered in the least.

It always follows a pattern with me.... sore throat, sinus drainage then to my lungs where the drainage sets up shop and causes an infection. Happens about every 6 months or so. But this Dan-Active stuff has made taking the antibiotics tolerable this time.
