i can't give you a real comparative analysis or anything, but i use "avast" from alwil software. home version is free, so bang for the buck is reasonable.

I pay an extra $6 or $7 per month to my ISP and they provide the firewall, anti-virus and ani-spyware. It's fast, simple and Bellsouth DSL is the best service I've had so far. Blows that TimeWarner cable shit outta the water.

For $84 a year you could purchase a better antivirus/antispyware/firewall, and for what its worth Time Warner also has those software apps free for users as well.

Thanks for the ideas, I have been using Norton, just wondered if there is something else out there that is better. Main thing is that I want something that works and doesn't make your PC sluggish.

i'll probably be accused of slamming again, but i can't stand norton. maybe the av is okay, but the norton suite of things drives fucking crazy. "norton personal jail cell". might be perfect for putting on corporate computers where you want people to only work on their projects and not stray too far from the path and you've got seasoned gurus to sort set it up perfectly, but jeez. had that installed on a computer at work and it had nothing but problems. so now i stay away from anything norton.

$49.95 list, covers 3 computers for that price, includes firewall, av, anti-spyware, and automates pc maintenance (backup, updates, defrags, removing temp files, etc.).
