ON this same subject, while Moose looks to play in Dallas, now Byrd is questionable.

In year one, yeah. Long term, perhaps not. I just don’t know if I want to pay big money to a receiver who had a breakout year in his contract year.

As far as past years are concerned, I can’t see any real oversights. For one, WE DID DRAFT A WR in 2000. Third round. Steve Smith, Sandy? Ring a bell? Our current starter?

Last year, I was mildly surprised that we didn’t get a guy in the later rounds. Had a Randle El fallen to the third round, we might have taken him. Otherwise, we’d be looking at Andre Davis here instead of Foster. Do we want a running back in a running offense, our another WR? Which was the bigger need?

    Smith was in 2001.

    Got my years mixed up.

We thought reciever was a strength that year. Moose and Jeffers were healthy, Hayes showed flashes. Things can change in a hurry.

I can't remember where I saw it but I read that Bright's routes are pretty shitty and add that into 2 dropped balls and he's having a typical rookie year IMO.

But yes he is fast. :)

Out of meat's list if we go FA WR I'd rather have Price or Dyson.

I know you guys are SCREAMING for a WR in this draft, but I just don't see it. I see the biggest need is at QB. Peete aint that great, although he could certainly do the job for one more year, maybe two. Weinke, as previously mentioned, is done. Fasani hasn't convinced me of anything yet. If you remember, Hasselbeck had several impressive preseason showings, but didn't amount to a hill of beans when it came time to show up for real. I still think you need a decent QB to be successful in this league. I think the top QB's are (ranked in order of my personal favorites):

    Byron Leftwich, Marshall
    Eli Manning, Ole Miss
    Dave Ragone, Louisville
    Seneca Wallace, Iowa
    Casey Clausen, Tennessee
    Chris Simms, Texas (just kidding)

Those who like Grossman can go suck an egg. I'm iffy about Dorsey as well. It's easy to be a good QB when you have a future NFL roster surrounding you. I think WR deserves a second rounder; if we do our homework, we should be able to find an impact player there. I'm also on board with TE in the third and a veteran FA at RT, although I'm wondering who will be available and how much they will cost. Don't think Jansen will be available, I think the skins will get him locked up this year. They have been hard at work working on his extension this year. Other than him, who will be available that will have an impact at RT?

  7. the thing about WRs is that for the most part (yeah I know there are exceptions) their first year isn't an "impact" year. The good ones will make a big leap between year one and two. so taking a WR with hopes of him being an "impact" is a gamble.

The best bet, IMO, is Charles Rogers....but he'll likey be taken way before the Panthers 1st pick. It'll suck if the Rams get him.

Leftwitch and Ragone will likely go high. Ragone might drop if Manning declares, but I think Eli will stay in. Clausen, who is hurt right now, probably will stay in unless he has a big second half of the year.

Wallace is a great college player, but most scouts think he'll have to play reciever. See Crouch.

And Sims, glad your kidding. Dorsey has no arm.

And that leaves us with Grossman.

And I have similar reservations. But if we go QB, that’s probably the only first round option. And in the end, he might be better served staying in another year as well.

Carson Palmer could be one to keep an eye on. After stinking it up, he's finally come on.

Might be somebody that may drop to round 2.

Really? I only saw him in one game, but it sure looked like he had a good arm. Looked similiar to McNabb when he was at Syracuse. Running around, making plays with his legs as well as his arm. I wasn't aware that he wasn't viewed as a good QB.
