Report: 'Idol' Finalist Faced Drug Charges
LOS ANGELES — "American Idol" finalist Bo Bice was arrested twice in the past four years on drug charges, a Web site reported Thursday — but Fox TV is standing by the long-haired rocker.

"From the beginning, Bo was honest and forthcoming in revealing his previous indiscretions and their outcome," the network said in response to the report on thesmokinggun.com.

His participation with the show will be unaffected, Fox said Thursday.

The hit talent contest, among TV's top-rated programs, has been roiled this season by tabloid allegations about one judge's behavior and by ABC News' vow to examine "explosive" claims in a special next week.

Several past contestants were booted for failing to disclose arrests, but those who have been forthcoming haven't been penalized.

Scott Savol, who with Bice is among the top five finalists, told the series' producers and Fox he had been arrested on a domestic violence charge and pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count.

Thesmokinggun.com, citing court documents, said Bice, 29, of Helena, Ala., was arrested in 2001 on a felony cocaine possession charge.

That charge, as well as a marijuana possession charge stemming from a 2003 arrest, were both dismissed after Bice completed a program for first-time offenders, the Web site reported.

The series' finale is set for May 24-25.

Former contestant Corey Clark says he had a sexual affair with "American Idol" judge Paula Abdul and says he has a recording of her imploring him not to discuss their relationship with the news media.

The accusations, to be aired at 10 tonight on the news magazine "Primetime Live" (Channel 9 (WSOC), were made public late Tuesday by ABC, two weeks after the network hinted it was preparing a report with "explosive" details about the hit Fox show.

Clark, among the 12 finalists on the second season of "Idol," was kicked off the show when producers learned he had been arrested after a domestic dispute with his sister.

"Primetime Live" had posed questions about the allegations to "Idol" producers. After days of silence, Fox released a statement to the show at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday.

"Clark was removed from the show for failing to disclose his criminal arrest history," the statement said.

"We will, of course, look into any evidence of improper conduct that we receive. In the meantime, we recommend that the public carefully examine Mr. Clark's motives, given his apparent desire to exploit his prior involvement with `American Idol' for profit and publicity."

There was no mention of the controversy on Tuesday night's "American Idol" show, where five contestants remain and one will be eliminated tonight.

In the interview with John Quiñones of "Primetime Live," Clark says that Abdul gave him tips for performing and helped him pick songs. He says Abdul gave him money to buy expensive clothing to improve his on-stage "look." Their relationship was platonic at first, he says, then became intimate.

In an answering machine tape he plays for the program, a voice that sounds like Abdul's implores him not to talk about her with the news media or mention her in his memoirs.

Abdul's lawyer issued a statement last week calling Clark a "liar" who's trying to generate publicity.

Clark's parents, Jan and Duane Clark, are also interviewed by Quiñones and said they disapproved of the relationship. They say they spoke to Abdul when she called their house looking for their son.

I am just in utter amazement that there has not been a congressional hearing on this matter. Perhaps it is the fact Paula's last name is Abdul and her father is a Syrian. If this was wholesome flavor of the month Jessica Simpson, I betcha Washington would be in full battle armor...
