Last Sunday evening I started losing my voice and it has gotten worse all week. With other symptoms I am having I strongly felt like I was getting a sinus infection. Yesterday I gave in and went to the doc to be told it isn't sinus but allergies. He prescribes Zyrtec and sends me on my way.

I still feel like shit.....how long till an allergy med will start working?

he needs to give you a decongestant and probably an expectorant to clear up the blockage that you have right now. the zyrtec probably wont do it alone if its bad.

it's nasty, but it may drain into your lungs, which will give you a sore throat (mucus aggravates your throat). Hence the expectorant.

dark yellow thick mucous can be a sinus infection too.

Your sinus' can drain without it being an infection. Usually true allergies has THIN clear drainage.

The bad thing about Zyrtec is that it doesn't provide 24 hour coverage in most people.

Well its been 3 days on the Zyrtec and my voice is better but now I have a terrible cough. I realize the doctor knows a heck of a lot more than I do so I never argued it..........But I guess over all I feel better.

More power to ya if you can take Zyrtec. I took it for 2 days once and had to stop taking it because my legs felt like jello. I personally have found that I have to take something with a decongestant in it for my allergies. Allegra-D just came out with a 24 hour pill. Although Allegra (without the D) had been 24 hour, Allegra-D hadn't made the switch over until recently.

The cough is because your sinuses drained into your lungs, just like I said they would.

I'm sure as hell not a doctor, but Ive lived through it. Guaifenisin is your friend.

My wife gets a head cold or shit more one every other month, but I go months and months without having anything. I think it's my twice-a-day Allegra.

    I agree.

Just make sure you drink extra water when you are on expectorants like that or you are wasting your money.
