Don't you understand that this is exactly why they went after Vinny in the first place? He's been in this same offense before and he's a true professional who does his homework and has the experience to pull this off. Nobody out there could have done it except him, IMO. Besides that, anybody who follows the Panthers knows that Fox hates starting rookies unless they are 1st round draft picks, and even then, I get the feeling that he wouldn't do it if he didn't have to...especially a QB. Fox and Hurney made the right call and they deserve credit for it.

Besides all that, Vinny didn't have to learn the whole playbook in a week, he just had to learn the game plan for this game. Of course, that's still a difficult task but he already pretty much knew the plays in this system...it was just a matter of learning the terminology really.

The Vinnie lovers are right....screw Jake and Carr. Sign VT to a 6 year extension.

He barely attempted any deep throws and underthrew those except for the Smith touchdown. Almost all of his attempts were very short passes, and as you would expect for someone with almost no practices, his timing was a bit off there as well. When your passes are almost entirely dump offs, though, you're generally not going to look bad.

Dude, when you say things like "don't you understand..." to me of all people, then you forfeit credibility. And yes, I get that we wanted Testaverde because the coaches were worried about Carr's back and didn't want to grab someone who might take weeks to prepare. But getting someone who can play right away and someone who can play well right away are too different things, and honestly, I don't know that you can really expect anyone to do the latter.
No, he hasn't. No two NFL offenses are exactly alike, and the similarities to New England's are overstated anyway.
Learning the plays is just a fraction of the process of becoming acclimated to the offense, and certainly one of the easier parts for anyone who isn't fairly slow. The hard parts are in getting used to the speed of the game again (a big deal for someone who has been on the shelf for 23 months), and more importantly, familiarizing yourself with your teammates. Without practice reps, he's not going to know what kinds of drops his tackles take, or how fast Smith is coming out of his break, or where King is best at catching the ball. Those kinds of things only come with time. No one signs a guy and then starts him two days later because it's unfair to expect him to perform without any of that knowledge. We obviously tried to protect Vinny by keeping everything very short, but it's still asking a lot. Fortunately he did well and the rest of the team did enough to get a win.

Again, there was nothing about the gameplan that Moore could not have executed. I get that Fox wanted a Rodney Peete-type to avoid mistakes and hope that would be enough for us to win, but I don't think that's going to work most weeks unless we continue to improve in all other phases (or continue to knock out starting QBs in the first quarter).

One game doesn't make a QB controversy, but I'd love to see what VT can do with more practice. I have to say I was quite impressed with what he did yesterday having been out as long as he has and with the team a couple days. If yesterday was his worst case scenario, I'm at least jogging along close to the VT bandwagon.

That's ok. He'll be alright in a day or two.

I liked Testeverde's performance, but in all honestly, it wasn't great. Even given the knowledge we'd win with Testeverde, I'd still rather have seen Moore start over him.

Testeverde is a temporary solution. We really need to be looking down the road at who our next starter/backup is going to be and getting that guy some experience. Arizona was a good chance to find that out, the Colts are not.

In 1997, the 49ers, Packers, and Broncos had exactly the same playbooks. It happens a lot more than you think.

I think what we saw was the fact that Vinnie was well rested and healthy even at age 43 he was able to move around and throw well. I do not know if he could do that for ten more (hopefully ten plus) games but I would be inclined to try it. If nothing else Carr has a reason to be worried about his job which is a good thing IMHO.

His time in the system means he was more familiar with what the Panthers were trying to do, as opposed to a guy who was signed Wednesday.

Don't bother with the insults of "we shouldn't expect much since your in the media." I wouldn't try to insult your profession by saying..."I didn't want mustard on that, but I shouldn't expect much."

The point of the post you picked out was, a younger guy that has more timne with the team, coaches, and game plans, was a better option, ON PAPER. Again, VT's performance was damn good (which I was happy to see), but completely unexpected IMO.
