All this about Duke choking in the tourney

If Duke has choked, then UNC has choked just as much as Duke in the tourney.

 

No, moron. It is incredibly funny that you UNC fans are too stupid to understand the difference between favored to win and expected to win.

A team would have to be 1:1 or better to be expected to win. Duke isn't even close to that.

Look dipshit. Say a team has a 10% chance of winning and a team has a 9% chance of winning. Which team is favored?

So does Duke have the best odds of winning? Yes, they do. Are they expected to win? No, they aren't. When I said Duke isn't favored to win the whole thing I was speaking Duke against the field. They are not 50% or better so they are not favored against the field. The field is around 72% to win so the field is favored. It is really simple.

Not only is your "knowledge" of statistics deficient, but you clearly have no gambling history either. When at the track has a horse ever been given a more than 50% chance to win? When in horse races has there ever not been a horse "favored to win"? "Favored to win" does not mean greater than 50% odds of winning the thing, it means having the best odds of winning among the various competitors. That said, I certainly agree with your point that it's still more likely that someone other than Duke wins the tournament and therefore it's unreasonable to say that they "choked" unless they lose early or lose to someone obviously inferior. And yes, Carolina definitely has its choking history as well.

 

When it is favored to win it is favored vs another horse not vs the field. Hence the reason it does not have 50% odds. Methinks it is both you and your knowledge that are deficient.
