Got to the midnight show of this tonight.

It was 3 hours, which bothered me at first, but after watching the movie, they could have easily made it twice as long and kept me interested.

Im a history buff, and I love how Stone has made this his Holy Grail of movies; supposidly a 10-yr project. The cinematography and battle scenes certainly show it off. However, the climactic ending fight scene with the elephants left a bit to be desired.

I dont like the way it was narrated by anthony hopkins. This style of movie documentaries is just played out.

All-in-all, I was impressed with the attention to detail of some of his life mini-stories, and how well Colin became the character.

I just didnt feel as captivated or moved as I thought I would be...I cant put my finger on what it was that the story was missing, but I felt like I wanted more at the end.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars. Return of the King was still a better movie.

I haven't seen it yet but heard it sucked. I also read somewhere the Greeks were pissed because it shows Alexander as a bisexual.

    I haven't seen it.

But, assuming it's an entertaining flick, I still wouldn't give a whole lot of credence to the accuracy of the historical facts of any Ollie Stone movie. He has an either a skewed perspective of and/or been known to manipulate the facts in order to pander to the viewing public, IMO.

Anyhow, since very little is known about Alexander the Great, except that he was a great warrior and leader and conquered most of the known world of the time, I imagine there's a whole lotta conjecture in this flick; not that there's anything wrong with that as long as it's not passed off or believed to be historically accurate.

I saw the Making of Alexander and was impressed with how much went into training CF to be Alexander. It looked like a good movie but I have heard similar comments. Too bad.

He was gay. At least that's what that said on the History channel.

Well, at least the story-telling was accurate. There were no ass-pounding scenes, but there were quite a few verbal exchanges where you could definitely tell.

Stone brought in a few of the world's top historians to make this film. It's not like he sat at home and dreamed up the story.

There is no proof that Alexander was gay or bisexual. I think the fact that it was more accepted in that culture makes people think that he was gay but no one knows.

If historians thousands of years from now found historical information on our society from an excavation of San Francisco they would think W was gay too.

:laugh1: In every life a little rain must fall, grasshopper.

The vast majority of historical documents on Alexander were written two or three hundred years after his death, so I read/heard somewhere; stuff passed down by word of mouth then written. And by all accounts, that I've heard, he was bisexual. From what I've heard bisexualism wasn't unusual for that time and under those circumstances.

I haven't done a study on him, just read about him here and there over the years; and saw the first (?) movie on him [starring Jeff Chandler and/or something Boyd].
