I cant even get the damned demo to work. I get a Direct3D error. the microsoft support idiots have told me that my drivers (78.89 forceware) are out of date and I must have a deficient cpu (Athlon64 3500+), not enough ram (2GB PC3200) or an unsupported vid card (GF 6800).

    Microshaft for the win.

    Fuckwads.

When do you get the error? During installation? During game initialization?

I know there are some issues with installation where if you have AdAware Adwatch or ZoneAlarm or any other personal firewall appliance running it will error out, but that was easy to get around.

    Ive got:

    Intel D850 mboard
    P4 2.0 GHz
    Radeon 9600
    1.5 Gb RDRAM

Same system Ive run for almost three years.

Interesting. My Direct 3D error is upon startup/initialization.

But I do have AVG anti-virus, and Ad-Aware, although Ad-Aware isn't loaded at windows startup. I also have a router with a built in firewall and I keep the lame MS soft firewall enabled.

    What's the workaround?

try stopping the MS Windows Firewall and see if that does it. The hardware firewall (router) shouldnt have any affect. The feature of Ad-Aware that causes the problem is the "Ad-Watch" service that stops/monitors things real time. If it is running, there will be an icon in the system try. Most dont have this, as it doesnt come with the free version of Ad-Aware.

Also, make sure you're running Nvidia drivers for the card, NOT the windows version.

    EDIT: Here... http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_81.85.html

    I'll give it a try.

Dang, I am having withdrawals after not playing AOE 2 for a year or more.

Did anyone else like Korean War Wagons?
