And it was probably one of the harder built-in AIs that I've played.

Still, it was simple. You could easily repackage it, name some new things, and rely totally on graphics.

yeah, i was just looking at it to see how it compared. it looks nice and will probably beat aoe 3 to the shelves, but it doesn't look nearly as good as aoe 3. the game play might be better, tho. i thought ee did things a bit better than aoe...

You're also comparing 2 games with a 5-year gap in technology.

    Cant do that.

AOE's biggest let-down was the population cap of 200, where with EE, you could get it up to 600, and there were even some hacks where you could get it to be unlimited.

We probably wont see AOE3 until at least October. Right now, all they're saying is Q3-2005.

yeah, that one was pretty cool. they have "Age of Titans" expansion that adds some interesting elements, but nothing too revolutionary (new race and a new "titan gate" for each civ that is a superweapon).

i like the genre, but there's something very spartan about the game itself -- not enough variation, i guess. the civs were nicely defined, but the number of units seemed a little light for any particular course of development.

    I've got the expansion.

AoM is probably not the overall greatest RTS game ever, but it's a mytholodgy buff's dream, and one of my very favorities. There's a lot they could do to create a sequel... expanded pantheons, more creatures, new unit types, new map types.... and you know they could make any number of new single-player quests.

They included a map-mission-editor toolset with the game but almost nothing on how to use it.
