Trading Peppers would be the stupidest move ever. He had 1 bad season, is a 2nd or 3rd round pick going to replace him I doubt it. See how this year goes before u Ship him packing, he wants to be here, unlike jenks and he is the panthers D, like it or not. he'll retire a Panther.

    and hope he does. :agreed:

No but I think we are stupid if we give it to him after the year he just put up. Imagine what happens if we dedicate that much cap space to him and he continues to play like he did last season.

The franchise tag is less than Freeney money for Peppers.

Here's something I see the potential for:

1st day tackle in tackle deep draft. If this guy pans out, he could play RT, and we can let Gross go of Gross doesn't play extremely well - or well enough to justify a huge deal when we have a guy under a rookie deal who can play well.

If we let Gross go, tag Peppers. Whatever the tag is, it will likely be much less than what he costs this year, and much less than a new contract.

We have alot of options next year.

Right now, we are OK cap wise even with Peppers and Gross eating $20 million, which is nuts.

"And one agent said today, "I don’t think at this point the Panthers feel they need to do all that much in free agency, especially with their quarfterback (Jake Delhomme) coming back so well from his surgery."

I hope this agent is blowing smoke because the Panthers need a quite a bit more work to be competitive than just having Jake come back (assuming he's anywhere close to what he was).

I'm a bit unhappy with that, if it means we aren't upgrading our rush - because I don't believe that's going to be a draft need. The Peppers situation does cloud that somewhat, in that you can't give $8 mil to some dumbass just because he asks for it, but it limits where you can be under that in terms of improvement v/s Peppers leverage.

Otherwise, if we came out with roleplayers like MM, MM, and Wesley, added a cheap vet DT that can actually contribute, then we did what we needed in FA. But I'm really hoping for a vet rusher.
