This would actually be a good fit for Davis. The way we love to pound the run fits his skill set nicely. If we could show him that we are intent on acquiring offensive weapons to surround him with, I don't see why not. Remember, last year, Davis had his best year with an offense similiar to what we have now. With Tony Banks as QB and Westbrook as #1 WR. Bout the equivalent of Peete at QB and Moose at WR, don't you think? Only thing is, we'd have to get some more beef on the o-line to help him out. The issue I see with Davis is how much is he going to cost us. Also, although he has been durable so far, he has taken a real beating due to his running style throughout his career. How many good years can he possibly have left? 2 or 3? What kind of contract (most notably signing bonus) will he command? If he wants a monster signing bonus, I'd have to pass. That kind of contract can prove to be a cap killer 3 years down the road when he is limping around the field all washed up.

true, almost entirely because he'd start here and not there. And he's local. But he'd also certainly prefer a team that doesn't suck.

I started to agree with you there, Larry, but on second thought, I don't think Fox will play that 'D. COY' crap. I think he'd nip that in the bud real quick. Besides, Moose doesn't have the capital to spend on crap like that anymore. Neither does Walls, which is why he's been relatively quiet this year.

Personally, I think Fox ought to put together a tape of all Moose's drops from this year and make him watch it. Then restructure his contract. :p

better yet, just cut him and save the production cost for making a videotape. oh yeah, and millions of dollars.

just get someone in who is still hungry. moose doesn't look hungry.

he needs a new place to call home and a new team to give him a huge paycheck.

That's what I'm trying to say. I think all he needs is an attitude adjustment. Show him all his drops from this year (last year, too), restructure his contract to a more reasonable level, demote his butt to #2, and make him earn his way back to #1. I think he'd respond. I really do. And we save the cap hit of cutting him. Plus, we're saved the expense of signing 2 new starting WR's. I'd rather spend the dollars to get a true #1 and demote Moose than cut Moose and sign two mid-level FA's. We're just getting out of cap hell. We don't want to go back before we clear the outer wall.

    demote moose?

he's a cocky nfl receiver. you don't demote those guys without knowing that you're pouring lighter fluid on a fire. he doesn't think of himself as a no. 2 receiver. never has. these guys don't need motivation like that. it's not college ball. their motivation should come from within. his comes from his paycheck.

i mean, if you keep screwing up at your job and you're getting paid a ton of money -- don't you have to know that if the shit hits the fan, you're a prime candidate to get the axe? moose isn't fast and he drops passes -- key ones at that. nfl "stars" don't do demotions. these guys aren't 19 year old college students.

I hear you, Larry, and I guess you're probably right. I just think it's worth a shot to try to fix what's wrong in his head before making the franchise take it in the shorts by cutting him.

But I definitely see your point about professionals vs. amateurs. Maybe I'm still naive enough to think Moose is a good receiver who's been playing bad, admittedly for a very long time. As long as I still believe that, I still believe he can be 'fixed'.

Then again, maybe too much water has passed under this bridge.

He'll be a #2 somewhere next year, whether it's here or somewhere else. He hasn't played well enough in 2 years to earn a #1 spot anywhere else, except maybe in Cinci.
