Did Van Damme and Steven Segal always suck? I used to totally mark out for their movies. Is it me getting older and my taste changing, or are those movies just dated now?

When they came out they were new and fresh. You did not see anyone else doing the kind of fighting they were doing on screen. That made them cool. The movies were always cheesy but the action made up for it. Now everyone is doing it. With CGI and wires they can make Tom Cruise look like a samurai and Uma Thurman a badass.

I'll buy that. I'm still ashamed for watching such cheesy stuff though

I knew the acting and the story was cheesy at the time I just did not care. I still like some of the Segal stuff. He was pretty good before he got so bloated. Some of his older movies make you want to go train in Akido.

I think that commercial he was just in is his best work to date. Two of his movies that stuck out as horrible (dont know the names) the one with the Eskimos, and the one with the twin Ganja smokin gangtas

The one with the Eskimos was horrid. I remember when it came out at the theater and I went to see it and thinking it was terrible at the time. The one with the Jamacians was not so bad. His fight work was pretty good. I love it when he breaks some limbs and has that smart ass thing going on. If he had stuck with straight action films and quit trying to make environmental films he might not be going straight to video these days. I can still watch "Above the Law" "Hard to kill" "Marked for Death" and enjoy them.

There was a movie called "The Perfect Weapon" that starred a guy named Jeff Speakman that I used to love. He is a kenpo karate guy and a student of Ed Parker so he had some cool stuff. There is a scene where he fights three Tae Kwon Do guys that is classic. There is also a scene in an alley where he takes on four or give would be muggers that is awesome.

I like some old Bruce Lee stuff too, I mostly just fast forward to the fight scenes though.
