    Scales are the basis for improvisation and melodic soloing, as well as dexterity between independent finger changes. That's what a lot of guitar players eventually strive to get toward, rather than visions of strumming in front of a freaking camp fire :mad:

    I went to a jam session in NoDa once and there were a bunch of goobers taking up space with their little nylon string acoustic guitars that you couldn't hear over the PA all doing chords, none of them taking solos, and I really couldn't find much use for them being there at all. The drummer had suggested something similar about them, but I don't want to hurt any feelings :D
