Can this be done? I have a cable connection at home and occassionally, DSL at work. Any ideas? I want to transfer some really LARGE files that I download at work that won't fit on a cd-rom.

The easiest way would be to use pcanywhere, costs about 25bucks. If you've got a company site you can set up a download from there. or email the file as an attachment to yourself if your mailbox is big enough. If its a print, you can go to the solid works site and get edrawings2 for free and convert your acad to that format mail it to yourself then convert it back to acad at home modifiy it and send it back the same way. But pcanywhere is the best way to remote access a computer it works over dsl and cable modem.

You have one or more files that you downloaded that's bigger than 700mb each? Dang.

If this is going to be a common thing, I'd get a external Firewire hard drive to carry with you. One wire, pretty small, carring case, pretty fast. Then you can download straight to it, and not have to waste time coping files back and forth.

You can zip them up. With the newest version of Winzip you can break a zip file up into separate parts. Break the files up into files of like 650 Mb and the rest will be the remainder. Burn the 650 Mb zipped files to individual CD's and the small remainders on to a one CD (if they will all fit). Take them home and unzip them.

You've been able to do that for a while with winzip, but what a pain in the ass process. Have you ever extracted a 600mb zipped file? Like watching grass grow.

Right, and the compression ain't no sprint either.

We use VPN for this kind of thing, but I don't know your system builder. Talk to your IT folks for options.

Does your company have an FTP site? We have one here, and if I have files I want to access at home, I just through it in a client folder and log in at home. It's as big as our server's hard drive will hold, but I don't use it for large files, I'm on dial up.

  10. I set mine up to do that from here with PC anywhere, you'll have to get through your company's firewall and your at home...

I started to turn my computer off at home when I'm not using it, in the case where it may have been hacked (my father in law turned off my firewall for a week) they can't do anything if it is not on. Therefore, I don't do it anymore.
