I seem to recall that the last time a dook UNC game was on the line at the end some big doofus named Haywood nailed his free throws to win the game.

Sly, the ACC tourney game was close...Close enough to make the DEVIL's sweat. You remember the game? The one where MIKE K got outcoached by MATT D. UNC controlled tempo in that game but couldn't make shots at the end. DOOK had the better players and pulled it out.

 

I have yet to see MATT D outcoach ANYONE....much less Coach K.

 

playing NOT to get blown out is not outcoaching. If the players are gonna hold the ball for 32 seconds and shoot, and they don't make it, how's that outcoaching? Outcoached?? Damn blue, whatever your smoking it must be good. If carolina was making shots in that game, i could see coach k pressuring the ball. The fact that he knew they couldn't shoot worth a crap makes me think he knew what he was doing.

 

actually its smart coaching... sorta a rope-a-dope tactic... basically UNC was playing smart ball to keep it close till the end... with a chance to pull it out at the end... similar to Panther football this year... control the clock and time of possession... keep the game close... once its near the end attempt a run...UNC was just playing against a better and deeper Duke team... this year if UNC can control the paint there's a GOOD chance they can beat Duke... that'll be the key... hell that'll be the ke to ALL their games this year... and without May that'll be hard.

 

WYDD, and SLY, Did Doherty outcoach K his first year in CH when he beat the DOOKIES on their floor? I think he did. You guys bashing on DOHERTY's coaching ability kill me. I think the joke will be on you guys in a few years, though. Holding the ball in that game was very smart. Doherty knew that he couldn't win a track meet with dook so he didn't try. His team controlled tempo in that game much to the disgust of K. K even eluded to the fact that he was unpleased that his team fell into that, in the postgame.

 

Sly, does that mean everytime Doherty wins that his coaching had nothing to do with it? I know you guys blame losses on his coaching. It can't be both ways. Also, if DOherty manages 20 wins this season and a tourney bid with May being sidelined, would that be considered a good coaching job or not? If Doherty wins 17 and makes the tournament would that be a good coaching job? If he does win 20 I think he deserves COY. Can that honor be disputed?
